That's the yellow GPS. I have one and love it. I mainly use it for mph and it DOES have a max speed lock so you can put it in your pocket and fly down the lake safely and then stop and look at your speed. WAL-MART around $110-120. Good luck.

I have an Etrex Vista, it's the best Etrex series unit they make. It has mapping functions, barometric altimeter, and also a magnetic compass. the cheap units can ony tell you which way you're facing while you're moving. This one can indicate direction while standing still. When I got lost snowmobiling at night out in the middle of nowhere, the track log mapping and mag compass are the only way I was able to make my way back to our cabin. It's also really nice while you're travelling, the nav. map will show you where the rest stops are, and where the freeway exits are, real cool stuff. Even so, the basic Etrex is fine for determining speed and such.

The Etrex units read speed as "XX.X mph" under 100, and as
"XXX mph" 100 and over (no tenths over 100)

Get lots of NiMH rechargeable batteries, it eats them up quick.
The Etrex units are waterproof, but will sink fast if they're not attached to anything. Go to garmin's website to compare the Etrex models. they really are nice.

Visit www.getagps.com to buy one. I got mine from this outfit, and the price was the best on the 'net. I also got a protective neoprene "jacket" for mine. I'm willing to bet it would float with it on, and the vinyl window protects the display at the expense of some screen glare.

There was another GPS thread here a month or two ago. I found the etrex on sale at Best Buy for $99 back then and posted it.

The other major crab I heard was how big the numbers were, as the big readouts are better at speed if you are looking at it then.
