I don't think Regal built Velocity in 1981.

The ad says it's an '81 and an '87. I assume it's an '87? Could be worth looking at, but I'm betting it's extremely rough. I'm really curious to see what it looks like though.

I think the hull number on the transom had to be changed on that boat, it took so long to sell it. No kidding. Commonly done, as long as it never left the "factory".

The 23 is Regal's version of the original 22' Velocity just with a more rounded and taller cap. It has an integral platform which is why it's 23'. Not as desirable as the 22, and definitely heavier. It's a cored boat too, so rot could definitely be an issue. For $200, could be a cool project depending on how rough it is.

The 23 Regal Velocity hull plug was tooled on Powerline Road, at Velocity, in Pompano. A new 22 hull was trimmed away, just above the chine, and new hull sides & transom were formed in wood to the new design. The carpenter that got this far along with the work, could not read and understand the deck plans at all, and what he did accomplish(the rough hull plug), was shipped up to Regal to be finished. Yes, the 23 Regal/Velocity was 3/8" BalTek endgrain Balsa with a scrim, on both hull and deck, as was the 22, 30, and 38(which was actually closer to 40 feet) and all the other "one-off" Velocity boats that came out of Pompano, such as the 30' Veloci-Slot triple EFI outboard, the 20' Velocity Second Effort JohnRude V-8 Bass boat, and the 42' BishCraft Wide Beam Sportfish by Velocity, etc...

Can anyone post a pic of a 87' 23 regal I/O like the one this guy is advertising? I'm curious to see the difference between this and the earlier 23 version i'm familiar with. Thanks

All the 23 Regal Velocity's were the same. All with simular graphics.

Thanks. That's not what I pictured in my head at all. Windshield seems too large and I'm not crazy about the way it wraps around the sides. In Florida heat and no wake zones you would be cooking in that cockpit. I do like the rear sun pad and the dive platform though.
Sounds like a $200 boat would turn into $15,000 ++ project by the time you get a trailer,re power,out-drive,core,floor,upholstery and re rig. I'm losing interest :D:leaving:

Don't knock the Regal 230 Velocity. It was one of my favorite boats with a 454 Magnum/Bravo One and ran a respectable 70mph. The cabin has two facing seats and a decent V-birth with some actual headroom considering the size of the boat. The molded swim platform came in handy and the boat was a blast to drive! I had a teal one just like a few of the ones pictured above. The exhaust exited the sides of the boat which made the motor sound like it was in stereo! The cockpit was fairly deep also!
