Hi all I was hoping you could help me with my engine height and setup, as you can see from the photo my prop shaft is currently at 5 3/4 inches below the pad I am running 6 inches of setback on my jacking plate. My boat is an Allison GT20 and engine is a 95 Johnson 225 with nose cone and low water pick up, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically then your about 6" too low. You should start there.

So I should have my prop shaft in line or maybe just above the pad
about 3/4 above pad start there

As far as I was taught. When you hammer it and you take off, if you feel the prop grabbing air then you might be too high or wrong prop for boat weight.
Like your kitchen aid blender. It's all good till you see that vortex in the middle suck air into the blades.

I've raised the motor up so that the shaft is in line with the pad, so i'll see how it goes. Thanks for all your advice.374443

Let us know how it runs. Is the motor still stock?

A 20 inch mid would be great, the thing looks a skyscraper, that's definitely on my wish list when funds will allow.

Bit of an update, the boat went well, but I couldn't get any speeds as my speedo has died and it was a bit difficult to see my gps reading on my phone, plus it was really busy on the river, beautiful day with a lot of people skiing. I definitely don't have a lot of trim adjustment I barely hit the trim switch and the motor is blowing out, it does seem to be handling pretty well, mind you I'm only running my 19p viper prop as I've spun the centre on my 26p chopper.
yes motor is basically stock I've blocked the idle relief ports.
Get the chopper fixed ,then let us know

When I had my GT 20 I had a 20 inch 2.5 200 ran it even with the pad and 10 inches of setback. I ran a 26 and 28 Allison cut choppers on it. Hope the helps.
