Boatermike, where do you propose that I post this, in the outboard section? It is going on a friend's sweet 16 donzi, with a 4.3, that eventually will get a supercharger. Incidentally, I'm looking at changing the lower to a sportmaster, but have to figure out gear ratios. I haven't seen one in years and bought it for my buddy on the spot, thought it was cool. Boatermike, why don't you try becoming a team member and support the website?

Very nice find Charlie.
We can add stern drive stuff here - there's no specific stern drive area on the site and this would be the closest thing to it I guess :)
Given that, I added 'stern drives' as part of the group. If there is enough interest, I will add a separate stern drive section.

Stern drive stuff typically puts the cavitation plate even or lower then the bottom of the hull. My guess is this thing will gain close to 5 mph at the speeds it runs. The pita is he has a gen2 transom assy so I'll have to do some mods get it to work.

every boat I have ever had with a sterndrive was always mounted way to low. I would take the hole shot problems and the loose behavior just to have it go faster

The boat should drive better with the raised x dimension also, especially when we put some HP to it.

They were putting them behind the 260 hp small block

2 1/2" shorter... An O.E.M could order them as part of the many 5.7 liter small-block V-8 MerCruiser "packages" available those years. Regular 5.7 260, 350 Magnum, 320 EFI, etc. Could also be included in the new(at the time) "454 Magnum" engine/drive package...rated at 330 h.p.

The boat ended up gaining 9 mph from the swap. Was alot of work but well worth it.417513
