Back when I was young and dumb, I had a 900lb boat that I would frequently ride the top of the wake of passing boats. But never running flat out and on top of the pad. It almost looks like that is what happened. Looks like he got on top for whatever reason then the bow dropped and he hooked. At any rate I guess all's well that ends well.
