Any ideas on what could be the cause of my Jack plate bleeding out and not staying raised?

Yes, its usually the seals in the pump.
What jackplate
How old is it
Merc or OMC
Pump in boat
Pump on ram
Just curious, but what boat and what motor.

I have no idea honestly! We bought the boat, it's a 2.5 merc 200 on a Daytona sprint hull, just noticed that the jack plate reds out pretty quick but the guy "said" it was knew! So just curious on what I might have to fix to solve the problem!

First, is your jack plate pump built on to the jack plate, or do you have hoses running into the boat where there is a pump. That would be easy to figure out, just by looking.
There is nothing inside of a hydraulic cylinder to be afraid of, its the most basic thing ever made. depending on your unit, only 2 to 4 O-rings. You do not have to spend $150 on a kit. What a waste of money. Go to Ace Hardware, Hardware hank, Home Depot. Those places usually have O rings, they will cost you about thirty cents each. Just carefully compare them. They come in different thicknesses and sizes. so don't mix them up when you remove them. Google how to measure an Oring. That will help you a lot. You can do it, its really not hard unless you have a bolt that strips, or a screw that breaks off. Let us know how you did. Were always interested.
Oh and another thing, what do you mean bleeds out? Leaves a puddle on the ground? Or just drops down quickly. There is also a check ball where the hoses hook up which is sort of like a one way valve. If you have junk on the ball bearing part, its gonna leak down. Thats why you need to be more specific with us.
