Hey guys, what do you suggest when buying a motor from a net site, and not seeing in person? I've heard about a 3rd party, wheere they hold money until motor arrives, then I sign off, and they release funds to seller?

its a leap of faith, from condition to leak down/compression numbers. If someone on here is close maybe they will take a look for you.
Post who you are buying from and maybe someone with experience with said seller will help you out. I have bought a few and sold a few. Seen sweet dreams and nightmares so it's kind of a crap shoot. Important to know who you are dealing with. Some are not so good.

Ask plenty of questions and get pictures. All of my dealings have been good. If you post your dealings on the thread you can be fairly sure any bad dealings will surface if you have concerns. Mike

Quick look on a map shows 7+ or so hours from MI to PA...for that kind of $$ and piece of mind, think I would take a ride with a handful of tools....compression gauge, leak down tester and a bore scope.
The cost of shipping will near cover your fuel to make the trip....Bring your wife and make a weekend excursion out of it?

He joined S&F on 08-28-2013, Has a total of 18 Posts most all of which are either trying to sell or buy something. If it were me Id want to know why he posted on here 2/17/2016 specifically looking for a 225 Power head, Acquired one now wants to sell it a year later???
And Im not insinuating hes a bad guy are anything negative. Just seems odd.

This is what I would do. I have driven farther for much less and I'm sure many others here have as well.

I think he's selling to buy a 260 or 280, it's not really odd, all of us want to go faster. With all the facebook pages alot of guys post more on them and less on here. I still agree with the road trip suggestion as one persons nice isn't the same as anothers. The motor could be mint or could be a turd.

If I were as close as you are to this motor, I would not purchase it without performing both a compression and a leakdown test on it. Failure to do so may result in HUGE expenses to rebuild it.

I decided to pass on the motor, too many red flags, and I dont have the time to drive there and test the motor, so I decided to buy a nice stock 2.5 from David Dreifort, hes shipping it to me, then Ill do some mods to it. thanks for all input everyone!!
