Forget the nosecone on that boat, it will probably hurt your performance!

Torquemaster would be a good choice, would allow raising the motor a bit higher than a stock case.

If you insist on lower water pickups, go with a CLE. Its a terrific all round lower unit and has won many many races.

CLE is for a boat that can run with neutral trim, any positive trim and they kill speed. 5mph slower on.my BAJA than the Torquemaster.

So glastrons are designed to run with positive trim? Meaning nose up? So thats how they get on the pad, if there is a pad?
Thanks for the new info.

No pad really. I run her trimmed out. Can't get passed 70mph

It's will be slower with a CLE, torquemaster is designed to run with some positive trim.

I had an older CV16,bottom flexed real bad. Porpoised. Cored and straightened the bottom and ran 67 with a warmed up 73 Johnson 135, no hop. You really need to fix the bottom to get good speed.

CLEs are old. Mine threw a propshaft, cost me a nice Hoss Triton. I would agree with no CLE.

As long as your under 80mph, a nose cone is not functional except the low water pickup if your gonna raise it on a plate or transom

just got done replacing the floor and interior. the bottom could use some attention. sustained damage from a humpback whale. did the work myself so it is prob less than laser straight. lol

Your boat will not need a nose cone CLE or Sport master case until you get to over 80 mph period. Jack plate water and temp press gauges are all you need to gain some. Trying to put 100mph boat parts on a 60-70mph boat will not help, chances are it will hurt.

I never noticed he said he was looking for a lower unit with a nose cone until just now. My comment was for a regular CLE, not a nosecone CLE. So as the OP said. whats a decent upgrade for his boat besides another stock lower unit?

CLE come like a coned fishing lower, some will cut the stock cone off and put a different cone on to add overall length to the hsg. Either way CLE is not for him.

Dave Strong has given great advice so far. Depending on your budget, make sure your hull is straight, you said you repaired it but it wasn't straight. That's priority number 1. The gearcase could be replaced or refurbished to like new and a stock gearcase is probably all you need now. IF you get over 70 and raise your motor you could plug the top water inlet to prevent air getting in but your stock case can handle 70 and be raised reasonably high.

The CV 16 is a cool boat by the way. Always liked the look.
