Folks,I posted this video a few years back on the tube. This was the last Pro-Stock World Championships in Key West with Team Pancrecarb onboard in 6 to 8's with an occasional 10 footer. A great class of racing and no doubt THE toughest engine combination to throttle-PERIOD. Pro-Stock Legends remembered-Chuck Neu's Shadow Insanity-Ocean Outboard Skater 32-Gabe Sipos' Pancrecarb-Thorobred Motor Cars Skater-Pennzoil-Bill Gzell's Cobra Great Adventure, Triple Threat, What a Package, Jaws and the list goes on and on.Yes, the stock class eliminatd the Pro-Stock class and yes they are as fast in some cases but, a twin cannot do what this video shows-
I say bring back the Pro-Stocks!!Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua4Kvi4DUeM

What is a prostock motor combo in offshore racing? Is it like prostock in drag? 200 with 260 electrics?

Pro stock were triple outboards. The class was replaced with "S" class which is the twin outboards and they are running the same speeds now as the triples were back then. They no longer run the 2.5s and everyone has made the switch to 300XS power heads. Most of the class are running 15" midsections but I saw a boat being rigged yesterday with stock 20"s. Doug Wrights boats have won every race in the S class for the last 15 years. Bringing a triple outboard class is back is much less likely then making an additional outboard cat class with larger hull options to accept the 400 to 500 range outboards that we are all anticipating.

So the motor was up to you but it was trips? So trip 260's or s3000's etc?

Pro stock ran triple 2.5s offshores(more suitable to an endurance race). The reason for going to stock and away from pro stock was for economics Top speed was comparaable due to the stockers hulls were of new design only while the old pro stickers i.e. Shadow cobra Cris cat and 32 skaters were past technology Acceleration of a trip to twin was no comparison(trips would prevail) The art of throttling a trip without grenading the center motor was indeed an art. I like the Doug wrights but something was lost when pro stock ended. You can't run a twin cat on one motor. Pro stock was always a fan favorite

I totally agree on the accel. and ability to keep it tucked and drive hard through big water. I have had 3 triple engine cats from 24 to 32 feet (I think that was a 30 spectre with 260s in the video). If I had the money, I would buy a new 35 from Doug and put triple 400s on it.

Looks painful.

Believe you me...it is. Especially in the sit-down smaller boats. You find yourself grunting out loud in your helmet continuously as the race wears on.

I think an (awesome) video like this just further proves my contention that if you learn how to drive / throttle in a smaller boat, you can move up to anything larger and handle it no problem. Of course you'd have to move up to a bigger boat since the small one you just learned in is now a pile of fiberglass dust.
And on a related note, no wonder I gave up racing / going fast in the rough stuff!

awesome video thanks for posting.
Is it just me or does it look like you could find room for one more 2.5 on that transom?

TooStroked you hit it on the head. Many of the racers/boats I mention in the beginning started out in 21 challengers/shadows/superboats, 24 skaters, progressions, and even in the ski modvp type hi-perf boats.
In fact the owner of that Cobra started out in a 15 cat with a modvp on it!! And yes, he knows how to run a boat.
As I stated, I miss the Pro-stockers. Call me old school but they were exciting to watch and more fun to race. Keeping all that **** running was a feat on its own. You knew your center motor was the sacraficial lamb and ready to puke if you werent paying attention....LOL.....but again if you lost her you could keep running.

I'm sore after watching those 260's bounce around. Ouch.
I like how they warn each other when a bigger wave is coming...you can notice the boat take flight and it's quiet for a second

it's the few seconds of smooth, quiet when you know the boat is completely air born that makes me cringe LOL

No problem. When Team Pancrecarb decided to run in the worlds it was a last minute rig. Actually we were running 2 2.4s and a2.5 in the middle! Pro stockers were indeed innovators. We even designed and installed an articulated center tab that gave us 12mph
