View Full Version : Skin cancers. Mixing Efudex with DMSO

Im putting this here in general as all boaters are exposed to more sun damage than the typical person. This is as important as wearing your life jacket IMO.

Skin cancers. Mixing Efudex with DMSO
I am having an "outbreak" of AK's (small crusty benign skin cancers). I have quite a few basil cell, squamous cell, and AK's removed over the years each leaving a small scar.
I have used Efudex in the past but the treatment is long and rather painful. My skin seems rather sensitive t it with more burning to healthy skin than usual.
I have decided to try an alternate application of Efudex mixed with DMSO. This speeds up the treatment to just four days with less scaring and damage to healthy skin.
Im waiting to pick up some DMSO and post results when I start.

Heres an article on the process:

Only use DMSO from Jacob Lab. Dr. Stanley Jacob lived 2 houses away from us when he discovered the medical uses for DMSO. His son and I were best buddies then and still friends now.

Just made the first application. Right hand and arm to elbow. Figure its the toughest skin with the most sun exposure. Good place to test.

I was just at my Dermatologist Monday and they did the freezing treatment on five of so areas on my forehead and ear ,

I wear long sleeves all the time even boating , I grew up at the beach always wanting that dark tan, Baby oil and iodine was our mix..

It gave me that prune face:rolleyes:

I now think WHITE is beautiful ...

Just applied the 3rd treatment (day three). Skin is getting very tight but no signs of pre-cancers being attacked yet.

The very best of luck with your treatment Chris, and I hope for quick and easy success. I'm sure others will find this post helpful also.

Being boaters, we are all exposed to the sun quite a but so this could be considered boating-related in a very important way. I wish the very best for your treatment.

I was in the sun my whole life and did not use sunscreen until I was 17-18, wish I new then what I know now, worst one to date, had a squamous on my nose and my back. I make sure my son wears hats and long sleeve shirts as he is more fair complexion then me.

DMSO, didn't they use that on horses on the 1980's?????

I have had many cancer spots removed, including 6 surgeries on my face and a few more on other parts of my body. I had it basil cell pretty bad. They would cut small football shapes out my face and stitch it up. I kind of got a free face lift out the deal.

the crappy part is it is starting to show up in places that don't get sun. I a pretty good spot cut out of my hip a few months back.

This is real, my cousin died from skin cancer. I don't use as much sun block as I should, but I am getting better at it.

Chris ..THIS IS A GREAT THREAD!!!! Being a prostate cancer surviver I KNOW how important this is. No one knows what the cause of prostate cancer is or how to prevent it BUT we sure do know what causes skin cancer and how to prevent it. If we only knew that we would live this long! If everyone treats their skin like they are a high risk case they will do a LOT better down the road. Do NOT let your passion take you out slowly like scuba diving is doing to me (Disberic Osteo Nacrosis) JMO Gary

So the update after 4 days of treatment. I had some small lesions, more like bumps, that kind of dried up and fell off. No real deep burned out area although the area I treated may not have had any pre/cancers. I started with this area because it fairly tough skin.

I am going to move on to might shoulder where I know I have some pre/cancers and start the same treatment while I see if anything else happens on my arm.

The males in my Father's family seem to be immune to sun caused cancers. My case I guess it's pay back for some other mean tricks genetics played on me. My dermatologist, every year the first part of September raises hell with me but never finds anything. I know how lucky I am. My Admiral has to be VERY careful. Been thru 3 or 4 surgeries on her arms. I know other people that have issues. My brother's wife for one. Folks, it really is serious. It can spread, Metasticize?, and kill. Even after 75 years, getting checked every year, I know how lucky I am. Please be careful folks. PLEASE!!

Yes it worked well. I ended up doing my entire chest and shoulders as far back as I could reach. Worked much faster than Efudex alone. I need to do my back now. I had a lot of spots show up where I didnt even know I had anything but the Efudex attacked it.

Do doctors recommend these procedures?

Where you have multiple small pre-cancerous looking spots, yes. I've had to do the Efudex thing twice on my face, with it always looking like I'd had a small acid-bath in the affected area. The suspicious moles, on the other hand, always get cut off and biopsied.

Mr. Demeanor
06-29-2017, 11:26 AM
Efudex is prescriptio only and its EXPENSIVE but if you have insurance its def worth having around.
IM not sure all Dr's like it because they dont get to charge you for a surgery for every little bump that shows up.

Melanoma survivor here. The deadliest skin cancer. Can take your life in a matter of months if you don't catch it early like I did. Have had 5 deep resections but just one was confirmed melanoma. The only way to catch melanoma is to watch for change to moles, particularly the ones larger than a pencil eraser. And if you are high risk get screened regularly. WEAR UVA/UVB broad spectrum mon. 50 and apply it heavy and apply it hourly. It will save your life.

My Dad (who is turning 79 in August) has had several melanomas. HIS father died a few months after having a melanoma removed (a small one). Turned out melanoma had gone to his bone marrow and screwed up his red cells and clotting mechanisms.

As a result, my Dad is screened quarterly and I go every six months. If you are fair skinned and have a family history, and you got sunburned real bad (more than) a few times along the way like I have, you just have that feeling that it WILL come.

Great important thread ! Try checking into a new all natural topical cream called Curaderm. It was developed and tested by an MD. you can apply directly yourself. Works great, no prescription necessary. You can find it online.

Yes.. me too. Took 3 trys to get it out of my chest. Scary ****!. Sections were taken down in to the muscle. It was right over my heart, it looks like I have had some type of heart problem. Its been six years now and everything looks ok. But when she's checking me and pauses... I can feel my blood pressure shoot up. We have found that besides for wearing like cooli shirts, that cooper tone baby/ water babies 50 is the best for the hot day when you are in and out of the water and sweating a lot. Stuff go's on thick and stays on. It almost takes dawn soap to get it off. I found this out having a red headed grand kid!..

agreed with the coppertone kids 50 spf, nearly zero fragrance and it doesn't burn your eyes.. I work outdoors everyday and I have a red headed son that it keeps the sun off of better than anything else we've tried other than the shade.. we just found it this year and that stuff flat out works, I've been recommending to people I know

My bad, I was showing my wife this tread and she corrected me. The banana boat baby 50+ is what we use. The cooper tone is good, but the banana boat has a lot more zinc in it and is more water proof. Belive me she has done the research. Even my doctor says she has a good eye. If your going to a outdoor party in good clothes wear the cooper tone, the banana boat will not wash out of clothes very well.

Your really just using it to deliver the Efudex/Flouracil. The DMSO just speeds up the process of the chemo chemical being absorbed into the damaged cells. It doesnt do anything to the cells by itself. We have show horses and always have some DMSO around. It is an anti-inflammatory on its own.

About 5 years ago my wife notice a spot on my sholder about the size of a pencil eraser, just look like a big freckle. It didn't hurt, itch or anything else. However my wife was persistent I have it checked because she notice it changed shape and was turning white around the edges. When the results came back it was Melanoma. For me, I was lucky only 2 surgeries and it was only in the first layer of skin. I've since had 14 spots removed (when in doubt take it out) and thank God they have all be negative. I still go every 6 months and have check ups, I've have some spots frozen and I've used Picato (ingenol mebutate) gel on others. All in all I feel lucky it could have been worst. If you in the sun a lot it is worth a trip to a dermatologist just to be checked. Age has nothing to do with it either teens get as much as anyone. It could save your life! Good Post Mr Demeanor!!

I agree with the above post as everyone needs to watch out for themselves. Colons, prostates etc Get everything checked on a regular basis! I beat Prostate Cancer because I watched it and caught it early. Life is short (and hard sometimes) enough without having to deal with advanced cancer!!!

Gary, does hemp oil have a smell to it?. Does it have THC or enough to blow a drug test?.
