Hi!

Today in calm weather I looked at my Promax 300 and one side of the outboard transom bracket was completely teared off. Luckily, I sawe it time and saved the boat and engine. Just imagine to loose the engine on a 25 feet boat in 78 mph. Have anyone of you experienced this???

PS! The engine was fine when I started my little sunny journey.

Cheers, Toffen G - Norway

Did the bracket itself actually "rip" or did the attaching bolts come loose or break? If the bracket failed, can you tell us who made it? More details, please.

Hi!

It was the engines bracket istelf, not the powerlift! All bolts was tight, and the bracket was teared off just over the upper bolt.

Talk to the people that get your work done.
Let them advise.

Toffen, a friend of mine used to race with a pair of OMC V8s. He had problems with transom brackets, as well as everything else, breaking. I have also heard of problems with transom brackets on modified Yamahas, but only rumors. So, it is not totally uncommon. There is a reason why Merc. race motors have the kind of brackets they have.

Barney, remember that Toffen lives in Norway that does not have the kind of litigative culture prevalent in the US.

Only to protect Toffen.
If Mercury people are going to be paying, he should only accept thier advise.
I broke a drive shaft on my 300, Mercury did not cover it because I pulled my own powerhead and replaced it, impatience and some "do-it-yourself advise cost me $1,000.

We had to pull the powerhead because the shaft broke off the top 1/2 inch of splines and wedged in the powerhead.

Mercury has covered everything else, when I waited and followed thier instructions.

Not worried about a lawsuit, just Toffen having to reach further into his pocket!

Hi!

My dealer and Merc will pay for this, but I have to wait for 2-3 weeks since no parts are avail in Europe and US. The Sportmaster verion has a more heavy duty version of the bracket than mine (Torquemaster / Fleetmaster). To replace, I have to pay a fortune. So I have to trust the new one will last..... or should I?

You're not wrong. Last coupla weeks been good, managed even to get a skydive in. Took a couple of days off to play in the boat - well here I am inside instead cos it's thunder and lightning outside. Time to go to another country I think.

Toffen,

Your very lucky you saw the problem before it broke off totally!!! I lost my whole gearcase last summer at WOT (@75mph) and spun the boat. Let me tell you it's a ride better then Euro-Disney.
Are there many Merc Dealers in Europe??

Good Luck on the rebuild.

Hi!

Yeah, we were lucky to see it on time. Jumping off a wave and the motor ripping off - heaven knows where the engine could have flown ....

Cheers, Toffen G

PS! Back in my old 12 feet boat now with 35 HP ..... My back already hurts!
