I would like to look at re-jetting the carbs on my 1977 L7 1500. I'm pretty sure that the factory jets are in the range, but I would like to experiment a bit. Should I just buy individual jets or should I get one of those kits with a bunch of jets in each size? Are there automotive jets that work with the old Merc carbs?

Thanks,

Dont buy the kit...youll spend a fortune. Check the plug insulator color and piston tops after a WOT run. You must pull the kill switch or hit the key off while at full throttle to get accurate readings. They should be a light chocolate color. If black, lean them 1 size and retest. 1 size is 2 numerically. (ie .080 to .078) if light tan, richen 1 size. if very light, go several sizes up.

I bought jets ranging from 76's to 82's as my motor was in the ball park with 80's. I just wanted to fine tune the jetting.
Good luck,
