Can some of you guys tell me if this motor came with an exhaust can from factory ?

How much different is this motor from the mercury bridgeport?

What up grades can be done to have more power or to make it a better motor?

Please excuse me from the dumb questions , this is my first hi-po boat engine , it is on a 20xd bullet bass boat just trying to find out a little history of the mariner line! Thanks in advance

bridgeport motor was a complete different motor this motor is a 3.0l There is many upgrades to take you from 225hp upto 300plus depends how handy you are and or how much maony you want to spend

I thought the Mariner Supermagnum was a 225 Promax painted a lighter color. If yes, great motor. Should be a lot of fun on a Bullet. If it was me I would leave the motor alone until I knew the set up was optimized. Then I would save for a nice 280.

That is what I was thinking too. If Simon has worked the computer it may already be tweaked.

What Bullet is it and what numbers are you getting now? How does it compare to similar Bullets?

It is a 20 xd , I have only had it on the water two time just getting use to it & learning things about it , I was just trying to find out what can be done To upgrade while I had the motor off the boat , I am repainting the motor , I am putting a bobs water pick up on the lower unit & checking everything out while it's off , I traded my triton for this boat & motor & just don't know much about the history or what can be done , What kind of rpm limiter did these motors have from factory ?

We have just ported / gasket matched , fixing to shave the heads on my brothers 2.4 to raise compression , I have been a machinist for about 30 years & have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to race engines , but two strokes are a whole another animal!! So I am all ears when it comes to them , I knew this was a hot rod type engine ( I guess) , just didn't know much about it or what I could do to improve it.

its a gray promax not s 3.0 liter ive owned quite a few promaxs in the last 20 years along with several 260 a couple 280 and one 300x all been on my 20XD ive owned since new 23 all total fastest motor was NOT the 300x which had all the 335 mods Eric Simon offered at that time included the mind blowing 1300 brain flashin which did quite a bit of improvement on performance but it was no match for a 280 with svs on it and trick ecu set up right with a coned torqmaster and 28 pro et jus let er eat, ive also had several brigeport motors i would not trade a 25 Bridgeport motor for on 225 promax in fact you could not melt me down anf pour me on another 2.4 of any kind im done with them stick a fork in this ol man

That motor is a 2.5 the same as the Mercury Promax but it is Grey so the call it a Mariner. Just like Evinrude and Johnson.
I think you mean if it has a liner in the can. Yes it does.

How much different is this motor from the mercury bridgeport?

IMPO, much more reliable with a much longer longevity. As for HP they are very close.

What up grades can be done to have more power or to make it a better motor?

Better? More power? What exactly is your plan for usage, fishing or hot dogging?
As for simple upgrades;
Steel cage bearings, remove oil injection if it has it and depending on approx run time new pistons.
I would strongly suggest if it has been sitting VST, injectors, stats, poppet and pulse pump service.
I also like to pull the heads and change head gaskets.

No question is ever dumb!
I say it is a great, powerful and reliable motor for a 225HP more like 240ish HP.
Mariner needed to compete with Evinrude and Johnson so they came out with the Mercury and Mariner. The same exact motor just different color.

If Simon has worked the computer it may already be tweaked.

You can pull the serial number off the ECU, and email them ( [email protected] ) and ask them what has been done to it. Or call Debbie at
760-440-9334. As long as it wasn't done more than 3 or 4 years ago they should have a record of it.

She also mentioned they didn't do much in the way of tuning these, but did repair a lot of them :(. It was likely they just pushed up the rev limiter. Think the stock limit is in the 6500-6800 range. Mine winds out way past that. Mine has a Simmons decal as well. ( Mine is a 1996 Mariner Super Magnum 225 )

That's the answer I got anyway when I emailed them about mine. They put their sticker on it anytime they get one in, whether for a repair or a "tune".

HTH
