Should I place this in a different area of forum? I have looked up parts but cannot figure out if mercury makes fittings to fit rigging hose on my Pro Max.

No, I think this is the correct forum.

Try looking at this page http://www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?251213-Mercury-2-5-280-rigging-hoses

See if these are what your looking for. I think the part number you have is for a standard fish motor cowl, not the Promax cowl.

If you can post a picture of your cowl pan we can tell you if they will work, ultimately saving you ordering the wrong part. If your pan is an early round hole pan they will not work.

This is what my 94 260 pan came with, http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k615/cajunmerc/Mercury%20Bridgeports/BE1C567F-E442-4865-A490-89B6D684A24A-2570-000006652C448ECA_zps7111b6e9.jpg~original (http://s1118.photobucket.com/user/cajunmerc/media/Mercury%20Bridgeports/BE1C567F-E442-4865-A490-89B6D684A24A-2570-000006652C448ECA_zps7111b6e9.jpg.html)

And inside the holes there brass bolts that pass thru the pan with nylok nuts,i had to cut the bolts shorter, cause they will hit the hyd. Seastar cyl. And crack the pan when fully turned.

I can't say for sure, but it looks very similar to my 96 PM 225 pan. They look round in the picture, are they? I want to say my pan holes are round,
Tux..you mean pre alien cowl as early?
If so, what options are there for the round hole pans?
I haven't bought these for mine yet, as my project is not that far along. I had/have those items in my saved page on eBay.

Thank you!
This is good to know, as I have the same Seastar cylinder for mine.

Yes they are round, pretty sure you could whip those up with some thick walled black pvc drain tubing. I think i have a couple old 200 promax cowls in storage that have oval openings, but they arent as big a cutout as an alien.

James, yes pre alien.
The round hole pans came on the early 90's 2.5 like 245/260 motors. The easy way to tell is from a front or side profile picture of the pan. It will have a drop of about 1" in the front/face area.
Not sure the PM's came with them from Mercury but anything is possible especially in a 95 PM, I just have never seen them as an OEM from Mercury.
What I have seen and what others have done many times which is not a problem the top cowl would never know the difference is use the 245/260 pan on the PM's

Tommy, that was John "Lightspeed" on here but not sure he is still making them. I would check with him first. Very nice piece he was making with a great price for the set.

Pretty sure the only difference between my promax and 260 SS offshore cowling was the hood pin., but i never had those round rigging tubes in my promax pans, iirc.

Got curious and pulled my pan down out of storage.

Not sure if this is going to help, but here is a picture of my 96 Super Magnum ( ProMax ) 225.

So it looks like the eBay cowl adapter might work on this cowl.
Now to plug that fuel connector hole! ;) Never did like those connections, they sometimes suck air or leak fuel. Top part of cowl is in really good shape. But need to paint the pan...After I glass that hole closed.

That sure is a PM pan. Good call on not using that fuel quick connector.
Yes, the Ebay adapters will work. Make sure to get the backing ring or you will need to make one or something to bolt together.

A front side view pic will work to help and see what you have.

You wouldn't have a pic of the backing ring you mentioned would you?

Thank you,

I will check. Best to contact the dealer your buying from and tell them you need the backing ring.
It is a plastic ring that goes on the inside to hold the adapter in place. I have used cut fender washers and have also made my own out of 1/8" aluminum.

Yes, that is the oval and PM pan, the same as W2F's so you are OK with the EBay plastic adapters.

Tommy :iagree: they did come with oval "rubber thingies". Cray but those rubber ones are 2x's the cost of the plastic, go figure.
I think that maybe a painted black TM.

Okay, I ordered Mercury part number 840212 and rigging hose with connection pieces for splashwell side. I understand how to rig that side. I need help on the cowl pan side. I need a retainer ring or I need to fabricate something to hold it in place. The holes on the Mercury adapter piece are just outside of pan openings. Has anybody drilled holes through front of cowl and used washers to hold this adapter in place? Or if someone can give me retainer ring part number it will be greatly appreciated. I want this to be an improvement not an eye sore and problem. Thanks for your help. Included a few more pics of what I'm working with on next page. 367237
