Hey so Im going to be rebuilding a high hour 2010 130hp v4 etec (approx. 1800 hours). Are the injectors servicable? It looks like it has had a new injector put on #1 and #2,#3 and #4 are marked with their respective cylinders. Should I be looking at putting new injectors on?

Etec injectors are cylinder specific, they must remain with there respective cylinder. If an injector is replaced the injectors software must also be replaced in the EMM. Evinrude does sell an injector service kit(filter screen and o-rings). There are a few companies out there that say they service etec injectors but I have never heard good or bad about them.

Isn't an etec good for more than 1800 hrs?

Its a motor off a ferry that runs all summer so its got a ton of hours. Its down to 85lbs of compression on two cylinders and the other 2 are at 115 and 120 lbs. Havent torn it down yet, i would assume if an injector went bad i could see it in the wash if the pistons not toast. When the etec injectors fail, it would damage the respective piston would they not? Or is it a case of it just running really rich on that cylinder?

I have seen v4 down here off a ferry with 4800hours on them still running. The owner runs them on a ferry and is a member here.

Some high hour 60* issues are locator pins coming out of Pistons. Also the blocks do not have webbing behind the thin steel sleeves which can allow the sleeve to crack. I don't like boring the sleeve more then .020. I've also seen Piston skirts crack And I have seen the bowl in the dome of the piston crack also. We have had good luck Putting wisecos in .020 over if the bores are out of round or tapered.

Thanks for the info about the motor Baja . Im hoping to get away with .020" bore across all 4, 4 new pistons and bearings and away she goes for another 2 or 3 thousand hours

Aren't the ETEC cylinders coated with a Boron-Nitride coating, or is the cylinder wall the same all the way through the thickness...? I'm aware that BRP sells 0.030" oversize pistons for them, but Mercury sells 0.030" oversize pistons for the Mercosil 25hp blocks too, but hardly anyone on earth can bore them per the spec.
