An urgent question.

Iv'e been doing a little bit of research about old racing outboards. One thing Iv'e noticed is that the Mercury Twister 6, one of my favorite outboards, has a good sized plate bolted to the left side of the motor. I was wondering, whats under or in that plate? I know it may sound like a stupid question, but I'm just curious. I thought this was appropriate to post this in the technical section because its a question I have about the mechanics of the motor. Or at least I think because I have no idea what that plate is for. Thanks for reading my question. I'm new here. 362077

The large plate covers the non-restrictive exhaust cavity,not too many of these...this system was used after the open headers on these motors were deemed too loud,and yes they were loud,Chris

Yeah those 6 cyl stackers were ear drum breakers for sure.
