Looking to buy my top speed prop over the winter. Really don't care about anything but posting high numbers with this one so I figure the mercury 14.5 x 30 or 32 is going to do the trick. I once borrowed a 32 and posted a number of 106 at 7400 rpm with a 280. The motor does have 260 electronics so I don't have to worry about a rev limiter.
Do you think it would be faster to run a 30 and try to get up around 8000 or is it faster to run a bigger wheel. I've heard from both sides just want to hear more people's opinions. Let me know what your experiences have been.

Only way to know for sure is try. What works for one boat might not work on yours and vise versa.

I would run the bigger 32'' wheel if the boat will plane off w/it. My best was near 100 with my King, running a tweaked 30p cleaver at 7500 on a 245 hp bridge port. 106 is really screaming and flying! I take it you tap the trim down as you get past 90? Using a windshield or no? You are now at 12% slip at 106 w/the 32. I don't think that going down in pitch would lower slip, even with the increase in rpm's. All props are different tho...

all the cleavers ive ran had around same slip as you or higher.....the 30" @ 12% 8k...still gives ya 106ish
have you tried a 30et?? if motor will turn 8k (i would think it would with right setup) you might have less slip....???

Only reason to run a big wheel is fuel economy or a rev limiter.
Small props will drive easier and let the motor turn up where it wants to be.
280 with 260 electrics will turn 9000 no problem.why run 7400 like a dog.
If your just makin speed passes why use the whole lake when u can do the same speed in half distance.
For river runnin long distance.... Maybe a bigg prop is the ticket for fuel econ and less wear on motor .
But for top speed passes on a 280 with no limiter its a no brainer.
24 or 26 and let her ripp.
