after 22+ yrs of pulling 10's of thousands of these things around I've often thought about what else these things could be used for, here are some other peoples efforts,

I would love to build a house or cabin from them someday; but I don't think you'll save any money doing it.

you can buy a 40' highcube watertight one here for 1800.00, that's roughly 1500 sq ft for 7200.00

Yes, but "watertight" can be a dented up mess... most recommend a "one-trip" container which cost more. Plus it can cost that much to have it delivered (depending on far you are from a port)... and that's a for shell not a house.
Almost every article I've read says that by the time you build it out; it's about the same cost as a conventional house. Lots of good owner feedback here: http://www.containerhomeplans.org/2015/04/what-i-wish-id-known-before-building-my-shipping-container-home/

belive me, with the down economy containers are stacked up by the hundreds all over the place. if truckers run up and down the road for 1.05 a mile with loaded ones I can't belive delivering one to you would cost very much. again, it all goes into how much you can do for yourself vs paying a contractor.

Always thought they would make a good under ground bunker.
