Thinking of digging/building one and looking for ideas.
Thanks guys.
Gary
I have a purpose built test tank I will sell cheap. 6' wide, 10' long, and 30" deep. It has a circulating pump of some sort and other than that I know very little about it. Scrap weight probably about $150. I'll take $100, you haul.

We have a small one for the portable motors, horse water tank. Works great for the small motors. The big ones go to the lake, only 1 mile to the boat launch. Still would be nice to have a bigger one, never seem to have the right tool when your at the lake. Interested to see any ideas as well.

I have one of these $65 poly tanks, I think it's 100 gallons. I set it on a pallet so I can take it out and empty it... either with the forklift or pallet jack. I just use it for timing, checking water pump, etc but I was thinking I could notch out a second one and use it as a cover. You can actually run a V6 for a long time before the water gets hot.

Thanks guys but Im meaning one big enough to backthe entire boat/motor/trailer down into.
Back in my marine supply sales days I had a customer w/one and have seen others.
Basically you can bolt a test wheel to a V-6 (helped that customer w/a V-8 in his), back it in, light it up, put your foot on the floor and tune.
You can make changes to p.head w/o pulling the boat out of the water. Can't do that in a tub
I still enjoy piddling w/the hot rod stuff but my patience w/going to the ramp and back, people at the ramp, etc, etc, is more PIA than Im willing to deal with.
Add to it, Im by myself and our local lake is nuts w/idiots that cant back a trailer or load/unload a boat.
Was there a couple wks ago trying to tune. Off season, took the far side of a 4 lane ramp, put my truck and trailer against the wall and stayed out of everyones way.
10 mins later there are 4 people in line on the ramp, waiting on a lady to back her husbands trailer down to retrieve him/his boat.
Oh, and she couldnt back a trailer. So she blocks the ramp, and everyone gave me the stink eye.
To me, a pit is the answer. Also for the first time, I live in an area where I won't piss anyone off.
I have the idea in my head................

You almost would make out the best if you rented the equipment and dug a pond, and I'm with you on some kind of test tank. It's almost a must have when you're working on motors daily or writing a map unless you have a real deal full on dyno room like Diamond, PPE, DBR, etc. Not sure what's involved in keeping a man made pond full of water but I'd like to see whatever you come up with.

Sturgis marine had one in De it had a ramp that back to a tank in the ground. Much like a swimming pool with a ramp. Was a single driveway wide and about 30 ft long. The oil and gas kept the growth at bay. Concrete walls worked well. There was enough water so no overheat. Rick

Any kind of a hole with water in it is a huge liability; it will have to be fenced and probably locked.

Great info guys.
Jim, been thinking that too.
Rick, exactly what I'm thinking.
David, look up Clarksville Ohio
Population of 550 and 90% are farmers w/ponds.
When we bought the place I told my engineer dad we increased the population by 1/2 of 1%

David, if I do a tank I will cover it to keep my dogs out.
And Jim, when I set the map in my Mad EFI I was 5 mins from a ramp and it still sucked.
Heres my blank sheet of paper.

That's enough property to make a water-filled circle track :D
You thinking "sprint boats".
