While boating this past weekend,I noticed that the Vking was becoming a handful to drive through the slopp.Got to the point that I would no longer make passes on water that I would normally handle fairly well.Just seemed to be twitchy, just not quite right.Well next weekend is the Hardy event,so a good preflight was in order.Steering was at the top of the list.Soon the culprit was found. One of the cables had pulled from the swedged end.I was basically running on one cable. If let go it could have become a major problem. So when your old buddy tells ya somethings not right, listen up,take time and find out why. It may save ya a swim!!-Or worse

I saw that and said something to Mark when we were admiring your boat at the island on Saturday.....I just figured it had been like that for a long time. I shoulda said something as it is a safety question but figured (being as talented as you are) that you knew about it and that I would be picking your boat apart and that isn't my style!

That is much easier than an after the fact I was wondering about that. Had a guy years ago saying his boat handled poorly on the way to the beach. I went around back of the boat and both port mounting bolts were missing. Motor flapping in the breeze. He says I will just take it easy going home so I left and got the bolts and returned to install them. It was a modified 2.4 on a Vector and so the lecture began. He wasn't too happy after that but eventually thanked me.
Had a guy standing at the back of my old Stream once and he asked if all props were like the one he was looking at. I replied yes and that it was called a chopper. He stated he had never seen anything like it. So I go out to talk to him and find he was referring to a crack that ran completely across one blade and was hanging by a thread. I thanked the man and got a ride in so I could get another wheel.
You must observe and don't be afraid to open your mouth. I have found the more you know and the more respected your opinions in a specific group the less someone will be likely to speak up. I always welcome the questions. Could save your life or someone else's. Good thread.

Another set of eyes will always see something we don't! Some observations might be a dumb question, others ya say....."Thanks for bringing that up as it got by me"!
I'm always thinking up some modification, others see it and say WTF is that for? I do the same the dock or launch and see others and ask WTF?... and I say.."damn, good idea"!

I noticed it and said something (to Mark) just before you went out on that last ripper....30 min before I went to the ramp and it was that bad, as I recall. Apparently it did not alarm either of us for some reason. I wish I would have said something and for that, I apologize. Will definitely take a different route next time....which is weird as I have been told that I am "TOO HONEST" and have been trying to take that back a bit over the past few years. Thanks for the learning experience....I won't let anything like that pass through ever again!!!

Was at a prop try out day a High Perf dealer put on back in the late 90's . Was another guy with a 19 Cougar tunnel with Bridgeport, went out steering cable broke did an instant rt turn at 88mph. Tossed him was knocked out had a lifeline and helmet, no kill switch. Boat was circling him at idle. Guys were on it and got the boat shut down and him to shore. His leg took the worst hit as his leg took out the steering wheel and extension as.he was ejected. Every boat after that got a good going over before they hit the water.
You can never over check nuts, bolts, cables, etc on these boats.

When it comes to safety, there's no such thing as "to honest" If anyone takes offence to good honest safety input, its there problem not yours! Thanks again for your input.I will be doing a little more thurow inspection myself.I'm guilty of just checking the prop, skeg, and mid for cracks, and then just lighting it up.It was a pleasure to meet all of you guy's. AND the beer was pretty good to!!!
