Hello All,

I recently purchased a 1988 Sportcraft 202 Fisherman which came with a 1993 2.5l Offshore 200 engine.

I had $2400 worth of work done to the motor at Precision Aero Marine in Plymouth MA by Mercury Platinum mechanic Glen Taylor.

He did plugs, thermostats, water pump, fuel pump, rebuilt carbs, voltage regulators, tune up, fuel lines, a bunch of wiring, valve seats etc. etc.

Compression was 140-145 on all cylinders and spark was good.

My wife loves the boat but hates the motor - the smoke, the sound, everything (probably because our friends have 4-strokes that sound like Priuses compared to our GTO).

I am strongly considering selling the big Merc this fall and swapping down to a 150-175 hp four stroke to keep the peace.

Would you gentlemen be so kind as to help me assess a reasonable selling price (high-low-likely) for my rig with controls so I can determine how painful this will be?

I assume that I would get more for the motor selling it versus trading it in.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated. I am located in Plymouth, MA.

THANKS!

That's what the invoice says - 3 x valve seat kits. If that's like describing a set of tires and listing "air" as a feature please pardon my ignorance - I'm far from an expert at this stuff.

I think any direct-injection two-stroke will be much quieter and less smokey than your "offshore"... they were called "offshore" because they were loud & smokey. :D

A newer ETEC or Optimax would be more wife-friendly, I think... and you wouldn't have suffer with a four-stroke.

Well that's weird - it says "1395-811690-1 Valve Seat Kit" and they were $25.30 each. Wonder what that's all about?

Got it, that would be the answer then.
