In the late 70s and early 80s there was a team out of Louisianna running a very quick Sleekcraft painted light blue named 'Misty Blue'. They were very consistant. Not as fast as Kim Howard and didn't fly it quite so high but were very good drivers and consistant. Someone in that group splashed the Sleekcraft hull then shortened it to 18 feet. I saw it run in St. Louis. It was very fast but didn't handle the rough stuff as well as the full size hull, still it was really cool looking. Can anyone enlighten me as to what became of the team and boats? Thanks.
Bruce Nescher owner of Sleekcraft boats tried cutting off the side sponsons , He told me it was a mistake. poor turning
Bruce would sell race boats at cost , I bought two for $4,000, per shipped from Ca. to Mich. for free, he just LOVED boat racing.
I remember Misty Blue, they ran very well.
None of his boats were painted , they came with a choice of four colors in mold gel coat more colors were optional

Thanks so much for refreshing me. I remember he was a nice guy and so was Harry. I believe he and I talked a bit about the Pirana. So what happened to the Pirana and the molds?

The Misty Blue team was fast. Marvin built a bad ass motor. In fact i belive it was because of guy`s like him and Al Stoker`s talents at making a modified engine run faster than Mercury`s own team`s engine`s that Merc pushed the stock block rule. Can`t have independant shop`s building more hp that the factory. Makes um look bad.
The Pirhana moulds have moved around alot. At the present time I think they are in Gonzalas, Louisina at Simon`s Outboard Repair but not for sure.

Yes They had a very fast motor. I was always amazed at how much power Allen got out of the Evinrude but they were still in the pack with the Mercs and on average about as fast. Allen is a great guy and great racer. My favorite of the era was Joe Burgess probably one of the best drivers I ever saw and on par in the Mod VP class with Billy Seebold in the Formula 1. I was there when he blew over at Fenton what a terrible loss of a good man. We ran a modified Youngblood tunnel that was pretty quick but the factory was too slow in helping us work out the bugs. When we finally got the bottom right where it would corner with the other boats in the class life and jobs took me away from the sport. We did finish 11th in IOGP and placed 3rd at Dallas Fort Worth drags in I believe 81. Would love to see some pics of the Pirana and maybe I'll contact those guys to see what's up with the molds. Thanks you guys for helping me firm up the past.
