Looking for some prop advise, I have an 1985 hydrostream voyager. With 85 merc 200 mounted high on transom with no jackplate. Running a 30 pitch Spinelli now but only runs about 55 mph at 5000 rpm, thing of 27 pitch chopper. Not looking to set any speed records but would like to see 65 or so ??

Get a floor jack and a section of 6x6" lumber. Jack on the pad about 28" forward of the trailing edge of the pad. If the pad moves without lifting the entire hull the core is shot. I have had two older voyagers fail on me. I had a pieced together steel sleeve 200 2.5 on the last one turned a DAH worked 25 Shooter 6700rpm at about 75mph. The core went and it lost 20 mph.

I jacked the boat up from the pad as suggested, doesn't seam to have any movement at all. Also checked by sides of pad with a straight edge when the hull was jacked at it remains straight. Would a 26 pitch chopper 2 be a decent choice ?

V bottom? 26 chopper or Trophy would be a place to start. You are probably lugging the motor with that 30.

i have a modified 29" laser 2 with a slight diameter reduction. the yoyager [1988 xt] with a 200xs , at 1" above the pad and 12" setback can do close to 80. i do have a sportmaster for low water pu. you nee at lEAst water scoops or real LWPU.

look just about where the back seats are for cracks. i caught a canadian voyare before he cracked the boat into with a 300 HO motor at 90.

Where would you expect to see cracking? on the pad? sides of pad?farther away from the pad? 1985 merc 200 is small shaft prop wise correct?

across the whole bottom starting from small cracks. the idea on top sounds like a good idea to try.

Have somebody shoot some nice clear video and pictures of a couple top speed fly bys and post them. OMCs and Yamahas run good right on the transom in the top whole but with Mercs that same arrangement seems to just wet down the sky like a jetboat. I always ran my 2.5 fishing motors 6-8 back on Voyagers. Easy enough to tell from a video of your boat at speed what is happening.
