I just broke my prop shaft and found three cracks in my carrier(2.5 200 case as some call it).Where can I get a beefed up carrier? Will a sport master carrier work? If so does anyone have one or know where I could get one?

I have a carrier coming from Bryan at Geigertec. I was looking at parts from Pro- Marine and noticed carrier nut for sportmaster looks much wider. Is this the case and will it fit in the 200 case? I want to beef this thing up as much as I can. Not interested is loosing another prop and tearing up l/u if I can help it lol.

Yeah, the sporty nut is wide, but the stock case will run out of threads using it. If you torque the nut with the lower unit on the boat where you can get alot of torque on it, you should be OK

Thanks for the reply. I'll try it, figured it may have more holding surface area and would would put less stress on case threads if it would work.

if it is beefier like a sporty or cle carrier, which it is,you can always drill and tap it with allen screws,to keep it from moving, better than a sporty nut,to try and hold it,

Yea, rear area that seats against the case is much wider and thicker. No advantage using wider nut because threads in case or only as wide as original nut. How many set screws do you guys use and at what locations ?

2 screws ,1 each side will be fine, just make sure it is fully torqued, before you drill ,then remove and tap the threads,
