View Full Version : Were standard 2.5 gearcases available on the Mercury 225 Promax series of motors?

I was wondering if standard 2.5 gearcases were available on the Mercury 225 Promax series of motors? I know that the torquemaster and sportmaster lowers were available from the factory but was unaware if any others were.

Nope, no standard cases.

Cle/tq and the sm I beleive were only options for promax through the years.

it may have been a dealer install but the first ever promax i ever saw was on a ski boat of unknown origin with a XR4 case on it... that was 1991 or 1992... iirc... i might have been 10 or 12

The small 1:78 XR6 case was an option, but since I don't consider it a "standard 2.5" case I didn't mention it.

tha little gear case went away 'bout same time PM came out...'94/'95... 1.87 tm was tha "standard" case offered

then the motor i saw had it added at a dealer.. because it was definetly a 225..

That's what I was thinking, the XR case on the 150 PM was polished aluminum.

thats something i've never seen on anything.... could have been first year of tha PM cause tha little case went away on tha xr6 'bout same time PM came out....

i did and ya absolutely right.. looks like a '94 150, 200 option.. cle standard.. '95 225 showed up along with TM or SM.. jus from what i blew tha dust off of! shoulda paid more attention back then... 6 was/is favorite case ta hot rod!
