Somebody help me here to save a little Brain Work of which I'm running short on!!

I've seen many posts on replacing the Rectifier and the Regulator on a 16amp system with the newer Mercury 5 wire Rec/Reg but Nothing on the How To??
It's evident where the Yellow Stator Wires, Tach Wire and Ground go but what do you do with the 2 Red Wires when the old system only has one Red Wire??

Also, where is a good place to mount the new style box on an early 2.5?

Somebody Please?

AMAZING that so many have done this and yet no one knows how they've done it!
I'm presuming that the 2 Red Wires on the late style Rec/Reg connect together and then to the engine's single Red Wire but I'd rather not take the chance of toasting my Stator without finding out!
SOMEBODY???

HERE'S WHAT I'VE TRIED:
Both Yellow wires on late Rect/Reg hooked to Stator's 2 Yellow and hooked the Grey wire to Grey wire on Rect/Reg.
Cranked it and probed the 2 Red wires.
Unregulated DC charging coming out of Red wire with the Male bullet.
A little minus voltage coming out of Red wire with Female Bullet.
NO Tach.
--------------------------
Wired the Red Male bullet to Red 16amp system wire cranked it and does not charge and no Tach.
------------------------
I'm assuming the Tach will have to be hooked to a Stator Yellow to work but STILL in a dilemma on why I'm showing unregulated voltage from the Red wire with bullet and yet nothing when hooked to the system?

I know some of you have done this.....is it a Secret, do I need a Password to find the answer???

I am also curious to see the exact way to do it.

J Martin, explained the process some time back in detail. Not sure how you would find it,but it's in the archives.

It was recent but did not show the final connections iirc. I did get a part number for a better part tho.

He has covered the topic more than once.I believe the original most extensive version was three to five years back.I found it a while back and was going to make a sketch of it,Well you know the rest of the story!

Just buy the correct rectifier they are cheap

I FIXED the problem with a TCI, MB352 200V 35A Bridge Rectifier for about 3 bucks!
No Regulator but all is well except the Tach jumps around at idle then reads correct after 2000rpm.
I'll hook it to the other Yellow lead tomorrow and check it out!
This 260 eats enough amps with all my stuff going that the charging should be good!

Please post a picture of the finished hook ups.

I have never done one, but here's the wire description....... 348949

Mount the Rectifier on the Starboard side screw hole where the old Regulator was mounted.
The Bridge has 4 male spade terminals.

I tried that exactly with the exception of leaving the sensor wire loose and had no output!
What's the purpose of the sensor wire?
The 35amp Bridge is working fine. Of course it's not regulated but for once in years I actually see my Volt Meter above 12.5 Volts!

My guess the sensor wire hooks to the ignition purple wire that has 12 volts positive when the key is on..... just a guess I'll have to look at a service manual tomorrow to be sure.

Ok, both red wires go to the battery post on the starter solenoid

SO it must be used to energize the circuit!! THANKS!!!!

it want charge unless over 3500 rpms 16 amp don't charge at idle u have this setup on my 16amp with the reg/rec combo in one and I charge fine with my 2.5 200 and 100psi fuel pump running all the time and all other stuff on motor I'll get exactly how I hooked up after work today be this evening .....but u can run just a rectifier and just run the hot wires to hot side on battery and it will charge 16am don't put out enough to over charge but will charge better this way with no regulator
