V8 lower unit shaft broke while running it does like hitting neutral . I need your advice or solution about my problem (j300plcem). Any idea of the rebuilt cost or new engine.

Based on your model number, it looks like you have "long" (20" mid) engine. The 20" upper drive shafts have been No Longer Availabke from Bombsrdier for several years. I have not been able to find any aftermarket ones either. Best bet is to find a used lower unit. I understand you can adapt the M2 lower unit from later model ETECs but I have never done it.

Etec m2 Is direct Bolt on ?

No it is not a direct bolt on but can be done. You need to cut the exhaust tube so it does not stick below the mid section, rethread the shift rod for correct length (m2 is shorter), and install the correct upper shaft which is a 91 and prior V6. It will be a 1.85 ration not the 1.75 V8.

You may be able to get Pat at Weisman marine to make you a shaft. They are in Costa Mesa Ca.

Welding is not the preferred option However, if someone has a machine shop and a lathe and can turn a sleeve that will go over the upper piece and lower piece, and then weld it, it may have a chance of living. Simply welding it without a sleeve will never work.

Is it the v8 torque thats the issue or fatigue later on?
I have seen plenty of V6 with welded shaft but had alignment pin bored to fit between both halves. Can get a significant vee welded then.

Fatigue and stress. Something obviously happened to cause the shaft to break. Putting a sleeve that slips over both halves and then extends perhaps an inch away basically creates a new area and does not just build on the one that was previously stressed. If you do it right, you can distribute the heat over multiple areas, not just one seam.

If its in good shape yes but inspect it first.

If good shape and clean oil, then yes, fair deal. Average stock lower is around $600 for a clean one.
