So friday I snapped the propshaft off on my sportmaster, and cannot find a used small shaft. Does anyone know if I buy a fat shaft kit # 804451A03 will it swap right it with no other parts?

The obvious thing is that it won't fit any small spline props you have. Internals are all the same and I'm pretty sure it's a straight swap.

Thanks, do I have to take the drive shaft out? I've never taken a case apart. I've rebuilt some manual trans and can setup gears in axels so I feel confident in my abilities. And I have the tools and a exploded diagram maybe just need some torque specs. Can anyone give me some tips?

I've replaced the propshaft in mine but I took it all apart because it broke between the gears. You can get it out without removing the pinion and driveshaft. You need to pull the shift rod up and remove the spanner ring and carrier which will have the reverse gear on it. The propshaft may also come out with it if you take the shift shaft out first. Might be better to leave it in, pull the spanner, bearing carrier/reverse then pull the shift shaft retaining nut and the shift shaft up to release the propshaft. Swap all the shift parts and dog ring to the new shaft and reverse the order. None of the shimming should change but I would replace the seals while you are in there.

Gear lash is very critical in these cases. They really are pretty delicate. I send all of mine to Craig Colabella at Colabella performance once a year to have him inspect the gear sets and re-shim, and re-seal everything. For a few hundred bucks its great insurance and knock on wood, I have not lost one yet. Craig is the best that you find and a super good guy-(407) 498-0094.

You can pull the propshaft and change it without getting into the shims. It has to be in neutral and very carefully pull the shift shaft after the bearing carrier is out.

Colabella goes through a gear-case for a few hundred bucks in labor? What a deal

I thought that there was a top notch drive surgeon right there in WI but now the name escapes me. If it comes to me I will post it. Maybe you will get lucky and it is a drive away from you.

Unit was rebuilt not that long ago. So just the shaft. But if there is someone close I am smart enough to give it to a pro!

Is it a possibility to run a fishing stainless shaft in combination with a custom made bearing carrier? I think someone on here sells bearing carriers for the 1 3/16 shaft with rear drain. Don't know if this is bullet proof enough but bet the pro's will shime in.
