i'm having a problem with my port engine, 1995 mercury 225 carb, on a 272 sailfish. The port motor has no power but the starboard has enough to get the boat up on plane. After it's on plane I can balance out the rpms and it runs along fine but i'm sure the starboard is still doing the most work. I did a little test this weekend by tilting up starboard and running port at full throttle and vice versa. Running alone starboard ran up to 3000 and alone port only achieved 2000. a wide open run gives me 5000 star and 4800 port with a speed of 38 mph. I think m propped correctly and these low numbers are another reflection of port not making power. Fuel burn, although terrible is even on both motors. I have not done a ton of diagnosis yet but i'm pretty sure fuel or filters are'nt the problem. I did put some new plugs in the port engine and the old ones didnt look like they were burning too awful. At the start of the season the port engine actually tested a little better then star on compression.
Thats about all the info I can think of.

Anyone who has some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

What's the compression now?

OK, I got to some diagnosing today.
First I want to thank got boost for the input. I hate being the guy who comes here asking for advice and then not taking it.
I did bring my compression guage with me but discovered #1 cylinder has no spark so I swapped some wires and through my new spare coil on it but still no spark. And didn't do compression.

So what do I check to figure out why it don't have spark.
I tried ohms on the stator but my meter seems somewhat unreliable

What I would like to do is see if I have voltage at the connector for the coil. Is this possible? I didn't see this test in my book.

Bottom line is #1 isn't firing so I'll let you guys lead me to the cause.

Thanks in advance
