I just installed a Holley red fuel pump, used a breaker and a relay. It runs when I turn the key on, but shuts off after 5 or 10 seconds, stays off for 30 seconds, then it will run for 5 seconds and shuts off again. Is this normal? I thought it would just run the entire time the key was on? I installed a three way valve so I could pump out the old fuel when it sits in the tank too long and the pump won't even run while I have that open.

It should keep running constantly, maybe your breaker is loading up and turning of cooling down starting back up heating up and so on again. To small of wire for the load? Wire it direct with a toggle switch no relay or breaker and it will probably fix it but you will need to remember to shut it off if you cant hear it running.Oh and run a 10-amp fuse in the hot wire to the pump ive ran many holley red and blue pumps this way with no problems what so ever.

It only runs for a few seconds, nothing could possibly be getting hot. Ran a heavy wire directly from the battery to power the relay.

try it directly to the battery like I said no relays no breakers ?????

Is it new, if not maybe has gummed up fuel in the vanes, if it's used turn it over and remove bottom plate and squirt carb cleaner in it should do the trick

All brand new, I went out one trip after installation a week ago. All 3M weatherpack connectors, all connections are tight. And here's the kicker, today I go out with my volt meter and some jumper wires to diagnose the problem and, it's running perfect. I can't make it go off. WTF? I let it run for 5 minutes, enough to get the motor hot, still perfect. I changed the relay just cause had one, still runs perfect. I hate intermittent problems.

Man, I'm considering it. I have this thing plumbed so perty. But how can I risk staving my outboard of fuel. Pissed.

Found it. Came hope from eating out, turned the key on and the pump ran for 5 seconds and shut off, 10 seconds later it's on, then off again. The new breaker was bad. I hate junk, why sell junk? This was part of Jegs wiring kit.

Like I said bad relay or breaker, just get rid of the relay and run the breaker.
