Hey I am looking for some information on 21ft hustler hull. It seems like a pretty rare boat and I cannot find too much information about them. I know the one in the classifieds won class 7 last year.
How do these boats compare to the likes of the 22 velocity, 21 superboat, activator, challenger etc. I'd put progression on there but they are out of the range I would like to spend.
How do you think it would run with a 2.5 200 on it? Total pig? I would like to possibly replace the hydrostream or laser with something a little more rough water friendly, but want something fun to drive still. Thanks for the advice.

I would personally just try to ride in each and see what you like. They are all a drivers boat.

Go to Hustler's website. They can give you the name of a dealer who will be glad to sell you a new one. Otherwise, you may not have much luck finding a used one. Good used progressions for sale also are hard to come by. You may have better luck with a superboat or velocity. I believe any of these boats with a 200 will get you in the 70 mph range and will give you a good ride in the chop.

A stock 2.5 / 200 Merc will get you low 70's on a 22' Progression. Don't ask me how I know that. (Mine runs 77 on GPS.)
BTW, since you and I apparently live in the same town, I might be able to provide a demo ride in a Progression.

Thanks tom. I'll hit you up at battleship. This is Jeremy, matts buddy. There is a cheap 21 hustler without power and s 22 velocity with out power I'm tossing around the idea of picking one up. Your progression Handel's the bigger water very well.

Velocity is a great boat, but just make sure it's solid. Like any other old boat

I remember Velocity winning three consecutive years, the APBA Offshore National Championships. Bill Kaye, out of Chicago, of "Captain Maintained" fame, accomplished this. Hard to beat that hull design.

Don't know if new was on your possibility list but Phil Vargas is building the Apache 21 with Bob Saccenti consulting. Todays technology with a great old school hull.

Mikeylarge's old boat! He did a great resto on it and it's one fast boat. Currently running a 300x and running very, very well!

I'm looking to find something used and have been very impressed with how Jamesgang and ben's velocitys flew. After doing the damn run at the romp this year in my broth er s 17ft hydrostream, we are ready to upgrade.

That's Ben's boat now and the boat I just quoted above. Lots of refining, balance and lighten work went into that boat, especially the bottom! Great straight runner now.....
Not sure his dad can even keep up with him now.....:D

Ben and Jimmy know how to setup a Velocity and they have a LOTS of time and custom work in theirs AND they have the experience of years and years of messing with them.
Don't expect anything you buy to run like theirs without some time and energy in setup. If that boat TUX is talking about is for sale buy it. PM or call Jimmy as well, he might know of one.

Mikey, made that hull what it is today! Lots of hard work with great attention and detail....
Keep in mind you still need to be able to drive it or them! Seat time is or will be your friend!

Thanks for all the help so far. I talked to Jim today about the 2 boats I'm interested in. I look forward to getting into something and learning the set up on the way. I would be a fool to think I could just buy a velocity and have it run like jim or ben's. I got to get into a boat to get some seat time. This will be my hobby boat slap the 200 I have on it and see how it goes.

Defender Scouts are built of the highest quality products. We use vacuum bagging for positive saturation and removal of excess resin. The end result of this high tech process is a lighter, stronger and a cleaner uniformed lamination. Furthermore this process "eliminates" voids and air pockets within the structure that cause delimitation.. The major composite components in use are: Airex core, Vinylester resin and Multidirectional fiberglass.....
Saccenti over sees the lamination schedule. Any other questions should be directed to Phil. It is a nice remake of a classic with todays tech.

I was not saying you were a fool. I gotta get the Intimidator running soon, I keep taking the easy way out and taking out the shadow. I spent 1650 in gas and oil in that thing last month. Oh my. Now we have a bunch of trim work to do inside out house, probably a two week job.
Check out that Intimidator mragu has for sale. Looks like a good deal, throw a 300x or a Promax 3L on it and you will be going pretty damn fast.

Fujimo, Our house is post and beam, no attic and was built in 2000. Over the years there have developed some cracks to where bats got in last weekend and we can't have that. It has been a PITA to fix. Normally hell yea it would be a winter project. Got to make sure an ant can't get through the ceiling now. It is rough. We have 12' ceilings in the place it is a lot of work. This one is in our main living room and is 29' up to that center beam from the floor. The ceiling photo is not the greatest it is on my laptop. That is about a 30x50-60 foot area that is 29' up. Lots of quarter round and caulk to do.
I was replying to this: (But is has disappeared)
FUJIMO has quoted you!

No problem. I'm all signed up and plan on being there. You've seen mine run in some pretty nasty stuff in years gone by. It takes everything Mother Nature and I can throw at it and pretty much laughs it off.

I've owned challenger been in many superboats and shadows and splashes of. We won national championship in a hustler and I owned Apache and kryptonite.
Best riding. Kryptonite.
Fastest was challenger
hustler ran 66 w a black max 2.4 200 and screamed w a 300
velocityis nice but if I had my choice I'd build a challenger I just love the hull that started it all.
Merolas hustler took one hell of a beating though and ran great w a200. Can only imagine w a nice warmed up pro ax 2.5 225 promax. His bout would probably go 75 easy

Merolas is the red one. And has just had a bunch of glass work done too. Has to be turned back into pleasure boat though. Was straight up race foe several years.

And let me add that's me driving the defender as well if you click the defender link. We got 65/66 from a bone stock 200 and a stock 3 blade merc prop merc has 25" shaft. Would run better w 20". For the money that boat being built and overseen by bob s and new tech products help and process help from Doug wright was the best I've driven so far of the 21' choices. Phil will be stateside in two weeks and believe he's got an order or two. He'd build you one seriously amazing boat and you wouldn't have to restore anything.
For class 7 that's the boat to have it turns on a rail.

I'm for the velocity, I have an 85 I've been restoring for a few years but when I had it in the water I had it doing low 70's with a 2.5 200, my buddy has a 21 sb and the velocity was a better ride

Old thread I know....but I just picked up an '85 21' Hustler and I'm looking for some history /specs /tips on these. They are based very close to me in Calverton which is cool. I know they are based on superboat/challenger hulls but heavier like 2100 pounds or more, my biggest question is are they cored? I'm thinking no but wasn't sure.
Any info on the build/layup of these boats is appreciated!
