Hello. I have been looking around this forum for years, but just registred now.
Noe i am looking for speedboat again after few years without boat... So quastion is, does anybody know how much fuel a seatek 1050bhp engine use in houer on different loads?
Also how much fuel a 280 merc 2,5efi use.
I going to use the boat to drive to some work i have avilable, and with car i use aprox 3 houers both ways, bu with boat its 22nautic mile each way...

Don't know about the big IO's, but most 280 powered hot rods (STV,Allison,Hydrastream...) will get around 4 mpg.

Thanx. How much us that in houer? We dont have miles here (or gallon)... If outboard IT will be light weight v or catamaran speedboat, 20-25 feet
If mileage is important buy an xs. Great performance and outstanding mileage.

The issue is how fast. For commuting to work, I would expect you would run at about 75% of top speed. Any of our motors really up the usage at wide open throttle. I don't think you want one of the Merc Racing 2.5's (260-280) for a commute (rebuild every 100 hours), and much bigger than 20' you want a three litre or two 2.5s anyway.
You want to know per hour, but you say distance is 22 nautical miles. Just guessing, that is maybe 26 or 28 statute miles. My V8 is a hog on gas, will burn up 13 gallons of 93 octane to go 26 miles at 70-75 mph on a 21' pod tunnel. I suspect that a 300xs would use half that, which is right in the 4 mpg range 2Fast described.

Rule of thumb for old engines is 10% of HP is gph at wot worse case.
Diesel is about 7.5%
Modern production engines are better at wot and much better midrange.

Thanx. Sure i will not drive on Max when driving to the work. I have the old 2.4efi engine in storage from earlyer boats, but back then i didnt think about gas consumption... another type then speed boat would offcourse be better economicly, but i dont whant anything Else
My first choice is the boat with the seatek, since diesel cost me less then half the price of petrol, and much eaisier acess for refueling... But thats in a 42feet boat, so get more problem with place to dock... And if blew up engine or gear, IT will be very expensive...
