Gearcase blows out everytime between 99 and 100mph. 200 case with a bobs cone has a welded torque tamer. Think I need to work on the skeg or torque tamer some. More or less torque tamer to help solve problem? Running motor at 1/4-5/16 above pad.

Thanks

ever think to trim some off ? as the boat goes faster the angle of wedge becomes greater and multiply's
i would think once installed all would not be grand without some tuning

you sure Bobs did that tamer,?pics are kinda blurry, but doesn't look like my XR6 extended/welded bobs tamer?they usually don't run tab all the way down to bottom of skeg..they stop about 1/2" from bottom.the amount of cup in wedge definatly will effect blowout speed.try to post more quality pics showing amount of cup

not a bobs tamer, has a bobs cone. not overtrimming. motor is almost neutral slightly past when stretched out

The back of the bullet has a ridge cast in it. That is the non aftermarket blowout ring.

Do all the Merc lowers have this?

I know CLEs and Sportys, maybe all v6. Don't sand it off.

This is a 2.4 big bearing with out the anode lower. It was a tec school practice case that was never run before.:D

One thing I was warned about that thrust washer is that it can get into the seals on the carrier if the taper hole gets big with wear. Just turn some off in the lathe if it gets close.

So with the Bobs weld on tab can to much arch make the prop blow out?
Is there a rule of thumb on how much is to much?

It don't take much

Reason I asked about blowout ring is some drag racers sand it off...early preload cases didn't have it...90+....blowout

Look at a Titus case....copy his tamer

I have heard of the shape of the case being off just a little from the filler used putting the nose cone on
little bit of a flat spot or a slite hump dont take much to send air to the prop

My blowout ring has been filled and my tamer is pretty pronounced. Got a pic of a Titus tamer to look at? Should I put the blowout back?

I would try to have a passenger take a picture back at the engine to see if it is going thru the water straight that will tell you if you need more or less tamer. You could also put the boat in a very slight arc to determine how straight unit is going thru the water. Be VERY careful until you get this solved and make sure you have on proper safety gear. Several different ways to go about it this is how I did it, like I mentioned however you do it safety first.

The blow out ring on a merc case is very important.
