Looks just like my stock CLE.
Here is a pic of a CLE with a Bob's bigfoot nose cone and blowout ring. http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30885

hey cdave
I've had a few beers so bear with me
does your response mean that it does have a blowout ring and the skeg has not been touched or the opposite

Looks stock to me= no blowout ring and stock looking skeg to me, IMO.
If you look at the skeg from the back is it thicker on the right side?
BTW, I'm no expert on L/U.

It isn't mine yet so I don't know the seller and I are trying to determine what this actually has, I know it has a torque tab if that's why you want to know if it is thicker on the right side

Skeg has been modified and there is no blow-out ring. The raised area at the end of the torpedo has been ground-off.

ring the way it looks in the pics. If it was there you would know it. It's nothing more than a ridge about 1/8" long front to back and maybe 1/16" to 3/32" high.
That skeg is not stock either. It looks to be cut to a 200 case skeg angle and someone has welded on a torque tab. A stock CLE get thicker at the tail and doesn't have that radius on the top rear. That looks like a Tooter's (JJ) tab to me.

thanks guys, that is what I thought about the blowoutring.
is the cut out at the top caused by a welded torque tab because I have never seen that on a stock cle before.
anyways thanks for all the help.

So has mine been worked on?
I plain on sending it to Bob's soon for a BF nosecone and maybe a blowout ring. Will I be able to run "through the hub" props with a blowout ring?
Yes, it has been worked/modified. My opinion is that the skeg was damaged in the front and it was "reshaped" removing the damaged area in the process.

Kinda looks that way doesn't it. BTW it's a 1990 CLE.
Hell, that should make it faster. :D

hey MTCM
what do you mean by "The raised area at the end of the torpedo has been ground-off".
This is I believe a 94 case , are the pictures you have of the lowerunits pictures like 1996 and newer.
thanks for all the info by the way it has saved alot of time and money
warren
Those pictures are "generic" at best, but they represent a reasonable profile of the cases. The pictures are from a service manual which covers the earlier 2.5L MPP engines. This does not mean that they are totaly representative of all years of these cases. The revision date of the manual is 1996. I have had a couple CLEs (used) that came here without the blowout ridge/rings. Then I have some CLEs that do. I have 200 "fish motor" cases from the late 80's (87-89) that have the ring. Common speculation is that if it does not have one, it has been removed. Like Balzy said, the ring is just a little raised ridge around the circumference at the aft end of the torpedo.
I have some Merc brochures from 1994 that show the CLE with the blowout ring. Also in 1994, some CLEs (if not all) had the wider cooling passage covers with 6 fasteners, while the earlier ones had the narrow covers with 4 fasteners.
Warren,
My CLE has the narrow water covers that Wayne is talking about. The CLE that Eagle one just sold has the larger covers in the pic on the post.
Just saw that Woodco has a 1998 CLE for sale for a good price, you should inquire about it! Also some of the newer CLE's are 4- hole wich are supposedly not as fast?
