View Full Version : Good thing I checked!

I am about to put the crank cover on now, (front half) and just to see, I blew/sucked through the top hose going to the top main bearing, guess what? the one way valve will only let me suck and not blow.
I checked several others and it was the opposite.
Does this mean that fuel/oil will not be allowed to get to the top main?
This block, I have never used (bought several in junk form), the one way valve has been replaced and apparently been held in with epoxy, but I will have to bust that sucker out and put in another.
Any hints on how to get it out, and put another in so it will stay?

First I am stupid but I have had 3 other people ask me what does ttt mean? ( Some sort of secret code ? Or do you have to have a Fred Flinstone decoder ring , just kidding LOL..... )
If I'm not mistaken the top barb is just an open one and the ball and check valve is on the bottom ! I may be slipping BUT that the way I remember it !

ttt means To The Top (because no one has responded and you want to get it back ttt)
But if you can't blow through it how can fuel/oil get up there?
And why do the others work opposite?
Wouldn't it be better for the bottom one to not let anything flow back down and the top to do the same?
Instead of the top not to let anything in at all????

Don't know about the valve but anything held in with epoxy can be removed with heat. It doesn't have a very high temp value and will weaken at a pretty low temp. In reference to alluminum anyway.

WOW!!Do I win anything :D I only had to go 3'.I've had my power head sitting on my kitchen table since last weekend when I put it together.
Waterwings,I don't know why they do it just know how it is.If you checked both end the same it wouldn't flow at all either way.You would think you would get the same thing with one check and one open barb but must be reson. Also the top check is alittle bigger diam. so you can't put the wrong one in.

So, should the top one be able to blow through and not suck?
I haven't checked the bottom ones yet, but shouldn't they be able to suck through and not able to blow?

Blow through the top one and suck through the bottom one and the 6 off the reeds.

Took out the one that worked backwards and replaced it with one that works the right way, now I feel better.
I wonder if the junk motor I bought for parts died because of the non working one way valve?

Just to mention.. I normally remove them with a pair of vicegrips fall all of them exept the top main.. that one is flush an I use a allen wrench that just fits in the hole from the back side and tap it. And yes and mentioned that top one you can blow thou and the bottom one you can only suck on. And yes it can blow the motor if it is incorrect. If fuel/oil mixture can't get to the top main you will burn the top main bearing up and trash the top main journal on the crank.
