Help! 2.5l sport master rough in reverse

My lower unit is rough in reverse. It hits hard in idle and make the motor jump. Any ideas what this could be?

Possible but it was doing the same thing before it was rebuilt last week. Goes into gear easy, spins in all gear positions smoothly and quietly. Any other ideas?

It "hits hard". Acts like it speeds up and slows down even though it's just in gear at idle speed

hits hard means what?? shifts into gear hard if so it is not the lower unit its the shift interrupter switch

What was replaced when it was rebuilt? Strange it's only bad in reverse.
