Has any one used the CDI digital kit on a 225 hp looper year 1990

Are there any advantages in this system vs oem?

Thanks in advance
David

I have installed several in service motors, much easier starting and great idle performance.Apparantly better spark energy at lower rpm's,i've never used one in a hi perf situation so i dont know about rev limiter and such, but they work great in fishing motors, call CDI for info...they are very helpful,Chris

Did a little research...
Pack and trigger kit,213-6665K1,6700 limit
213-6667K1,8500 limit
I'm encouraged,I presently have 4 loopers in the fleet converted to yamaha ignitions...work great, but are a bit of work to fit.I'm going to try the CDI 8500 set on the next one,We'll see how it does...I expect it to do well.I am a dealer for them if anyones interested,Chris

I tried one on a customers motor several yrs ago and it ran horrible. Hunted for RPM at idle.

Like the Quick Start was kicking on and off. Whole ordeal sucked as it took almost a month for CDI to take responsibility and accept part was defective.

I loved the theory but that one bad example was enough to scare me away and haven't been ready for another $800., 30 day fiasco.

I've spent enough this year on goodies, but ignition is on my wish list for next year.

Far as I know, I need a 86-89 150-225 hp yamaha? Correct?
Not alot of those kicking around up here. If I can't find a good donor motor I'm excited about the CDI setup.

Either way, David let us know how you like the CDI setup. Which kit did you go with and how many RPM did you wind it up too?

Well so far so good. It starts and idles great , engine runs good as well ,still breaking it in so no wot runs yet.I used the 6665K1 kit. I went for this system as this engine had a problem with the timer base which was basically frying the quickstart of the powerpack.it would not idle properly and was also dropping a cylinder at around 3k rpm.
