From what I was told....about 7 boats in Pro Gas and winner was Rodney King (in Mathew's boat), 2 boats in Outlaw and Erik Kiser was winner. Don't have any info on other classes.

Yesterday wrapped up the 2016 Shootout on the Sabine (https://www.facebook.com/shootoutonthesabine/) in Orange, TX. Lots of close racing creating some serious tension in the point standings throughout the class list.
Deep South Racing Association (https://www.facebook.com/DeepSouthRacingAssociation/) ran a great accident free race all weekend long.
JR Drag- Two words- CORTNIE CAMPBELL. This young lady can DRIVE. She and her STV Euro Ski drove to their second consecutive victory this weekend. Big improvements from Cade Alexie in his Allison XB2002 prove that he is gaining ground. If Cade has anything to do with it Cortni better get to testing or there may just be a different outcome at the next event.
Lake Racer- Lake Racer has one of the tightest fields we've seen in years. Mount Pleasant's own Brad Spigener in his White Allison SS-R is right in the thick of it. Brad secured his second straight 2nd place finish at the shootout. The man to beat is Randy Wheat from Bridge City driving Jason Cockerham's Red/Grey Allsion XB2002. The top several spots in this class are anyones game.
River Racer- Jason Smouse hailing from Houston, Texas took the win over Orange, TX's Kody Fisette. Kody is a newcomer to sanctioned racing and is wasting no time knocking on the door of long time racer Smouse's 1st place points seat.
Super Stock- West Monroe's Joe Davis took home the hardware in Super Stock. After going out sooner than he'd like on Saturday Joe must have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express because he came out and took names on Sunday. 2nd place went to Scott Alleman.
Pro Stock- What a weekend for the Pro Stock fellas. Kerry Sevin the bearded beast found himself back in the winners circle this weekend but it didn't come easy by any stretch. Justin Gould put about as much pressure on that win as one could do. Justin hurt a motor going into the final round on Sunday giving the win to Sevin.
Super Comp- This weekends weekends high flying award had to go to DSRA's own Jed Angelle. Jed's red Allison XR2001 was on a mission all weekend. Running 2nd this weekend and picking up steam is Oran St. Marie in his Yellow XR2001.
1400 Modified Production- Shawn Jetton is no stranger to the winners circle. He went right back to his winning ways this weekend. This class saw a battle between the well trained student and his teacher as Shawn narrowly edged out long time friend and mentor Jerry Pettefer.
Pro Gas- The talk of the race in Pro Gas was the Caldwell Racing Technologies sponsored ride belonging to Mathew Caldwell driven by pilot Rodney King. This boat shot out of the gate like it was fired from a cannon. Another impressive ride making its DSRA debut was veteran driver Bret Hamilton with his beautiful Bahama Blue Allison XR2001. If Bret keeps gaining ground he could really have something for the hard charging CRT team.
Outlaw- This is the DSRA's fastest class. It never ceases to impress. Shreveport native Erik Kiser and Orange's own Tra Taylor (driving boat owned by Aaron Campbell) put on one heck of a show. Lightweight VS. Lightweight, Mercury VS. Mercury, Tunnel VS. V-Bottom. Kiser and Taylor traded licks back and forth both days with Kiser taking the overall win after an unfortunate mechanical difficulty placed Taylor out of competition at the end of Sunday.
The next stop on the Deep South Racing Association (https://www.facebook.com/DeepSouthRacingAssociation/) schedule is the Battle on the Bonne (https://www.facebook.com/BattleOnTheBonne/) in Farmerville, LA. June 25-26. You can rest assured the Battle on the Bonne will only tighten up and add to the momentum coming into the Quake on Town Lake in July.
LET'S GO RACING!

First race in that class there were three boats, on was having problems and missed this race.
One me of the other ones will maybe miss next race due to work etc.
so so many people through the years have asked for a class like this it will be a shame if it ends this quickly.
Help spread the word and try to get more boats in that class, it's not weighed down by strict motor rules like the other classes, there should be tons of boats running around that fit into this class!

Not really. I mean you cold run your boat in the class if you want to, but there are very few boats in the country that really fit the class.
300lb hulls, motors on alcohol plus who knows what kind of fuel additive No nitros. 150lb drivers. I always loved the outlaw class, but its hard to compete with what outlaw boats have become today.

i should have been more specific, I thought you were talking about river racer not outlaw.
1500lbs for small block merc, 15" min shaft are about the only rules. 150psi max compression and 260 gtx fuel so you can't get too crazy
It's no where near outlaw, Jason smouse has won last two events with a full interior triad v21 and a 260
jason said he'll prolly miss the next few events because of work, and if Tyler can't get his issue figured out will miss another one. Leaving only Kody.
Can't have a one boat class!!!!

Jason's Triad has been kicking arse for a long time. I would like to see them reinstate the unlimited class. So many people that have boats a little heavy for outlaw are now spraying their boats. It's the big trend around my neck of the woods. There are more than enough nitros assisted boats just in my area to make a class.

That's true. Although getting them to remove the bottles now would be tough. More than enough classes I suppose especially since they added that junior dragster, or what ever they call it, for the kids. JMHO

I've known Jason for a long time, he definitely knows how to set that boat up.
My my point was that that's the type of boat most of the guys asking for a class like this have, triad, euro, river rocket mirage whatever with a shaved front half of a little bit of porting and say they can't run the other classes because either
A) they have a slightly modded lake motor
B) boats to heavy for classes that allow it and they don't want to jerk their interior out and stereos etc to make weight.
So this is the class for all those people over the years that say that's why they don't come out and race.
I don't think it's been advertised enough personally and that's why their is so little participation.
It it seems like Winter Nats and North chapter rallies have more advertisement than actual DSRA races, from what I've seen anyway

I am not suggesting they make a new class. Your right, probably no one would participate. They are really more into the list racing. A couple boats I know of around here are spraying two kits with a lean burn for a total of 500 plus hp of spray on a drag motor. That's what I have been told anyway.

our nitrous boat comes in around 1050 lbs and we spray a 250 shot, that being said, we wont be racing in the new BUICK class due to having to add 150 lbs

150 lbs isn't a whole lot in the scheme of things. A lot of boats are adding that and more.
I know some guys adding over 600lbs in some classes.
My drag should be 1230 or so when I get it rigged with me in it, so to make 1400 with me in it I'll need to put 170 or so in it.

I realize that 150 pounds doesn't sound like much, but in a true UNLIMITED class that equates to 3 to 4 boat lengths and I will sit on the sidelines and watch before I put weight in a carbon fiber boat built exclusively for speed and quickness. That being said it will more than likely become another Pro Drag or Outlaw boat until someone changes these rules!!!

For those that do not know, there has been only 2 boats in UL over the past 2 seasons.. One of those boats being considerably heavier than the other.. I'm sure he doesn't like giving up 100+ lbs either but he still shows up to race.. we all enjoy seeing the UL boats run , wish more would show up

Lot more boats out there that are a little heavy than there are carbon boats think that was reason for weight rule i agree that a true owtlaw unlimited boat should not have a weight limit but a two boat feild race after race makes no since either not many people gunna drop the coin for a carbon boat and unlimited powehead

And for the earlier post about if you want to race you will, that's 100% true. I missed a bunch of years for actually not being able to fit into a class but am close now. I'm 50-60lbs heavy every race but I give it my best!!

You know I'm glad this Unlimited discussion has come up, and enough people have had their opinions on it, and they are certainly are entitled to it, so I'm going to give mine, as I have a little experience with it as well. Unlimited in regards to heads up racing with the ODBA has ALWAYS had a weight in it, with the exception of the 3 or so years since it was moved to 800'. When I raced it for 7 years or so it was quarter mile and initially was 1250lbs. Now I couldn't get any where near that, but I raced it anyway because thats the class I wanted to run. I lost some and I won some but i always raced. Over time the weight moved around and ended up at around 1350lbs for 4 or 5 years before it eventually lost enough participation during the down turn in the economy that a change was needed. By that time, 800' had showed up so we moved it to a 800' class and took the weight off it all together. DSRA tried it before we did and it didn't work either, but we tried. So for the last three years the "true unlimited" class was an ABSOLUTE failure. Truth be known, we should have gotten rid of it this year, but it was thought that it deserved one last ditch effort to revitalize a class that truly used to be the star of the show. So a 1200lb minimum was added. Truth is simply this, the super light guys are gong to run Outlaw/Pro Drag, and there is as sector out there that plays with spray that can't compete with the super lights these days. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work, but lets be clear, no weight limit WAS NOT WORKING. And as far as the the rules being changed again in this class going forward, if this doesn't work the class is gone. PERIOD.
No one has been affected by rules changes more than me over the years as I have run 6 different classes and have been lucky enough to have success in all of them at some point or another. Not because it was an easy class but because I liked the challenge. Now to be clear, I hated when the rules got changed, on what seemed to be my account, but it NEVER made me go away. But thats my story, take it for what it's worth....................

No doubt. My comment was meant to be directed at the guy talking about adding that weight to lake racer or 1400 mod type boats and comparing it to outlaw boats....definitely not intended to be a comment about the unlimited deal although I can see how it might have come across that way.
