Hi Guys,

About to install some speakers in my 20' Bertram CC.
The speakers I have choosen are
2 - 8" wetsounds - RMS Watts: 150, PEAK Watts: 300, 4ohm
2 - 6" wetsounds - RMS Watts: 100, PEAK Watts: 200, 4ohm

and either a 10" wetsounds sub (RMS Watts: 300, PEAK Watts: 600, 2 or 4ohm), or 10" JL M series sub (250w, 4ohm). I am after loudness and bass if possible with just my 4 speakers and 1 sub.

I was after a wetsounds HT AS-10 for my boat due to limited space but they are so back ordered and its going to take too long. I am overseas (Bermuda) so I have to ship everything in.

my questions are

a) should i go for wetsounds sub or JL? wetsounds has more rms


b) what amp should I get for this? one 600w/4 for speakers and a 250-300 watt 1 channel for sub alone? I am not sure how to go about this. Or should I get a single amp with 5 or 6 channels for everything and with 800w?

recommendations would be wonderful. I am not trying to break that bank!

Is the sub woofer powered or passive ?

Will cross-overs be used for the 6s & 8s ?

Any tweeters or horns for high fequency ?

for your sub, it depends on what amp you get. You can drop down to 2 ohms and get more power out of the sub, or you can go with the JL (I Love their quality subs) which is 4 ohms. A little less powerful, but I can guarantee will sound amazing.

Personally I would never go with a 5 or 6 channel amp and combine the sub and speakers. It helps with space and sometimes saves money depending on the amp sure but you reduce sound quality overall.

So, if you want power and big sound, go with separate amps and the lower ohm setup. Just make sure the amp can handle 2 ohms (almost all of them can).

only a year late to the thread... but I have to disagree with your statement on 5 channel amps. I run a 700/5 JL marine and love it. No shortage of sound quality there. I prefer JL over wetsounds any day. If you want bass and have the room go 12" sub in a tuned ported box and face the port to the outside of the hull so that it resonates within the hull and not the free air.
