Not sure where to start or how to cost effectively try different props. 300XS with sportmaster and 1.75 gears. More interested in hole shots and cruising between 35 and 70mph. 90 top would be ok.

Where do I start with dia and pitch. Based on reading past posts would a 14.5" or 15" diameter with a 34P be a good start?

And how do you experiment without going broke on props?

thanks in advance!!

28 or 30 Drag Four or Merc Pro ET will do what you want. An XS has the torque to spin the bigger dia. and it will also be better for carrying weight. A 30 will be just over 90 and a 28 will be just under but both will pull hard with a 75.

Thanks Joe! You guys are really helping me out (and saving me $'s) as I learn about these boat/motor combos. The extent of my 'go fast' experience is a '78 Hydro Vandal with a Merc 90 when I was a teenager. So, when you say 'larger diameter' are you referring to a 15" ...or larger?
Thanks again!

Find some people locally and see what they will let you try if they have any props or Call up BBLADES propellers out of princeton, WI . Both Brett and Brad there will be able to hook you up and they also have a prop testing program you should look into.. Waaaaay cheaper than buying/trading props..

15 or 15.25 will be good. If you need you can always have it cut down.

Thanks Superpro - That's very generous!!!
Starting with a Merc ProMax 14.5"x 28p as an everyday prop for good hole shot and cruising 30-65mph. No idea where I'll end up though RPM-wise. Will experiment with pitch for top speed later.

Wasvette I can build you a brand new custom propeller that will perform the way you want?

Thanks - I'll definitely keep that in mind when we're ready for a prop more optimized for speed. Since I'm new to all this, how would you configure the custom prop without testing a few different set ups on the boat?

We would go over your current propellers performance and boat attitude/rigging.
I would then do my calculations and build you a custom prop for your application.

I will tell you My boat is almost identical to yours I have a drag 4 that prop that prop is great out of the hole and at 6500 RPM I'm turnabout 94 miles an hour I have a 300 X on mine and my motor as less than 100 hours new not rebuilt I personally don't Know if it would pull a 32 i'm getting ready to try and 29 on mine With a custom DeWalt 28 five blade I pulled 101.4 at 7000 rpm my hull is a little heavier than yours though sounds like you'd be real happy with the 28 drag for See if you can try one

So to clarify, you have a 28P drag 4 that is getting you to 94mph? Thanks!!

Also the 300x has a rpm limit about 500rpm more than the 300xs
