Scream And Fly moving into a new server - Please Read

Hi Everybody,

It's that time for us again...

During the next 24-36 hours there may be some site service disruption as the Scream And Fly site is migrated to our new server. Our new server will increase the performance of all aspects of the S&F site dramatically.

I apologize for any disruptions in site service during this time, and I scheduled most of the work to take place during off-peak hours, so site downtime should be very minimal.

Thank you guys - I really do owe everything here to you all.
The new server is being racked right now. We'll be on a very high performance Xeon server and for the first time, full SSD drives, which should give the site a 3-4X increase in overall performance.

I'll let you know when we're going live with it. Possibly later tonight or by tomorrow.

I really appreciate that, thank you very much. Right now the Scream And Fly site is on the new server and it will take a few days for the web settings to propagate to everyone, so it might seem a bit quiet here for the next day or two. The old server is still running, although the "www.screamandfly.com" web address no longer points to it. However, it takes a few days for the new server IP address to become associated with the web URL because of caching and proagation. So in the next day or two traffic might be down a bit here.

The new server is blazing fast though, and we are now fully on solid state drives as opposed to standard hard disks. This server, in addition to having four times the RAM and many times the processing power, will be about 3-5 times faster than the old one. And the big thing is, it will enable us to do something I've been wanting to do for years, which is live video streaming from events. That's something I am really excited about.

I'll be working to fine-tune everything here during the week, but we are fully live now on the new server.

Above all else, and most sincerely, I am grateful for your support because this would just be impossible without it. I am so thankful for the long time support you and so many people have given the Scream And Fly site. You've also been with us from the very beginning, and I really am thankful.

So far the new server is running very well. There are still some tweaks to make and small bugs to fix but its performance is incredible. So far, I'm really pleased. This will be an awesome summer. :)

I always get laugh from that, completely unplanned just sitting at the ramp at the River Run, next thing we know he's getting "dressed" with several accessories:D

It sure is much faster - the new server we had built is almost five times faster than our previous one. The site continues to grow and so we reached a point of maximum resource consumption on the previous server. This one has a full solid state drive RAID array. It really screams! Every operation on the site will be much faster now. We will also be starting updates on other aspects of the site, such as the photo gallery, which is kind of old and difficult to navigate.
