I am looking for a pair of switch boxes for a 1998 200 offshore. My mechanic just told me that mine are getting weak and should be replaced. He mentioned that i should get them in a matched set?

So if someone could tell me if i should in fact replace them as a set and if you have a, been checked and verified as good set for sale, how much are you asking for them?

I believe the theory is..... the newer switch boxes are going to have improved electronics inside. SCR's, rect'em fires, etc.... you know, better guts. than what came with your old, tired, original switch boxes 15 years ago.. If you up-date just one box, you run a possibility of causing issues. Perhaps the other original box could then go bad. Perhaps, the new box could be affected... Buy them from CDI and save $$. I lost one switch box on my motor last summer and just replaced the offending one. Ran fine. We'll see how this summer goes!

What is a symptom of a switchbox going out or out all together? My motor has been running perfectly fine since power head replacement last month. Just took it in to get a quick checkup and this popped up. Has had no running issues at all.

Sales pitch, if runs good leave it alone. Electronic part they don't wear out, No way he can predict they are getting weak, they work or they don't. Time for a new Tech or Shop.

Yep, sales bull dust. Switch Boxes either function or they don't.

What is a symptom of a switchbox going out or out all together? You test them by measuring the output to the coils with a DVA attached to your multimeter, but low readings usually trace back to the stator or trigger having a low output. Like said above, they work normal or not at all being they are a solid state device with no moving parts. Largest component inside are the capacitors that discharge.
