IMHO, I think tighter heads is the easiest, cheapest thing you can do to raise hp. 2.5s love compression. Of course you have to run higher octane fuel.

I'd say it depends if you want 'bolt-ons' like swapping to tighter heads and some good reeds, or if you wanted to tear into them and do some work inside. Tight heads will bump the compression and give you a little more 'seat of the pants' feel and throttle response. If you were to have then worked by a competent machinist then your options open a little more.

Use the search function, and you will find about ten thousand posts that address that topic in one form or another...

Leave them stock , less problems.
Your better off working on set up
do you have a jack plate , adjustable
If you can raise the motors higher , cut drag , better props... gain a lot more.

I agree with CUDA, spend your money on propellers and work with your engine height, r.p.m. balance and setback. It takes so much additional horsepower to get a 5 mph increase that making sure the actual set-up is correct makes a lot more $ence and will typically yield a better result without getting into motor detonation issues caused by more compression and old fuel combined.
