I have a 20 foot Ski Centurion with a 225 Evenrude that used a Detmar steering system. The Detmar cables are frozen and out of production. I am looking at 2 different teleflex models. One is a rack system like my old Detmar, the other is rotary. Is there and advantage of one over the other?

Thanks in advance!

Rotary if you don't have room under the dash, otherwise rack.
Have you considered hydraulic?

I just up graded from my old 1971 1971 Evinrude 125 with Ride Rite tiller steering to a 2011 Mercury 150 Opti Max that came with Hydraulic Steering. The shop owner hanging the motor told me he could do either but the Hydraulic would be so much better and a lot better control over the old steering.
To might want to check it out if changing everything over.

Buy the best you can afford-you will never regret going to hyd. steering Vs. cable. Torque steer becomes nothing in comparison and makes driving much more enjoyable.

Hydraulic sounds like the way to go then. Can anyone suggest a good replacement. I currently have a detmar rack with 14 foot dual cable system on a 225 Evenrude.
Thanks for the great tips!

I would look into a seastar 2.4 helm and 5300 series front mount ram that will fit your application. They will sell you everything you need as a complete package.

Crowebar. I have a Barefoot Warrior/Centurian with Mercury 2.4 200hp.. Not many of us anywhere. I'm in Moses Lake. At the dunes or Potholes every weekend. And, I've been nursing original dual cables for awhile. Boat comes out of storage next month and I'll see if I need to up-date also on steering. Rotary or Rack systems cost virtually the same amount, it's hydraulic/"Pro" systems that will put you back $$$$$.

Uflex silver steer only.
Uflex silversteer is best.

Thanks for the info! I think for a couple hundred more bucks I'll go with the Hydraulic. I have never been happy with the dual rack cables even when they weren't frozen. I feel like all I ever do in my boat is turn around an pick up one of my kids who just bit it on their wakeboard. Might just be worth a couple hundred bucks extra! Found a seastar system for 900.00. One question, it comes with 20 foot cables. The instructions say round up and add 2 feet. That would mean I need 17 foot cables. Can I coil the extra under the dash or is the correct length critical?
King Dad, Glad to hear your warrior/barefoot is still running strong. Mine is a little older, a 1987 and a little cramped in the cockpit area, but it is paid for and still does what we bought it for!
