When did Mercury and other outboard manufacturers stop using a separate power trim/tilt motor in the boat and integrate it into the engine?

My 1986 InLine has the one piece, 3 ram trim

I don't think OMC ever used a remote mounted pump set up on their consumer outboards. I had a 1977 140 Erude with the trim system mounted on the motor.

About 82-83 we started seeing the 3 ram.

My 83 150 was single ram and my 88 220 lazer was triple ram...I think it was 1985 when they changed.

Great! That's what I needed to know.

One other question...

When did Merc go to the 2.5 liter v6 from 2.4?

I ask because I'd like to pickup an older 200hp Merc, but I'm looking to find out which year's are best/worst and what's best in terms of displacement, oil injection, gear ratios, etc. I know all that stuff changed over the years and I'm trying to stay around $2k for the engine.

Thanks all for your feedback! I appreciate it.

IMHO 96/99 200 2.5 efi is merc best small motor ever of course i rebuild Merc only and they make a very reliable fishing, pleasure rider mota with all the BS stuff in the waste basket like auto oiler, idel stabilizer detonation controller all of which generate trouble when they falter, later models have more reliable electronic auto oiler but dont run as good IE:CDM motas

So, disable the oil injection and run mixed gas?
