I have a couple of merc s3000 motors I'm putting new pistons in do you hone the sleves? if so what type of hone?

If bores are not egg shaped then deglaze with aluminium oxide brush and finish with a plateau brush hone.

Merc recommends not honing. Need special equipment to properly do them. Usually Diamond honing stones. You're better off leaving them be if you don't have the right tools.
Ball hone, from goodson. 320 grit with wd-40. Then a plateau brush.

Thanks guys for the advise, my bores are just glazed so I wana tidy them up

Be sure to use Aluminium oxide ball hone (I call them a brush hone)and wash up block with hot soapy water until a white cloth comes out of the bores white.
