Steering system help opinion on system

I have a 19' crest liner aluminum deep v it currently has a single cable steering rotary system . I'm having issues with the cable freezing up in the titl tube. I've decided to replace the tilt tube if I have to, but more importantly I want to replace the steering system. I have had the hydraulic steering before and love it , but the budget doesn't allow it. What recommendations can you guys give me to a good cable system that won't be hard to steer. I have an 90 140 evinrude single cable steering

making sure there are no sharp bends in the cable helps, as does taking the cable out of the tube and cleaning and properly lubing it. Google cable luber and you can pull a simple to build lubing system that has worked well for friends of mine. it uses some pipe, an air hose fitting and a rubber hose with a few hose clamps for a seal and you push either automatic transmission oil or a mix of a few different oils through your system. The problem with the grease added through the fittings as it ends up gumming everything up .. My 2 cents anyway. Ps my one buddy did not do the threaded end but just coupled the luber onto the tilt tube with a piece of hose and some hose clamps and it worked great for him.

the open end goes over the tilt tube with the motor bar disconnected you fill up to the plug on top with automatic Transmission oil and connect an air compressor to the air fitting on the other end and it forces oil through your steering cable from the back to the front. Takes between 45 minutes and a few hours from what my friends have experienced. Worked great for all of them.

If its just the tilt tube that is gummed ....just pull the cable out and clean the tube with wd-40 and a long round wire brush on a drill.
Hyd steering is very nice option ...;)340529 this setup i rigged for a kicker motor ....really slick, no tie bar needed.
