alright, Ive got a short shaft 40 mariner and I dont know where to mount it on my transom. My transom is mahogany and I only want to drill one set of holes in it. Tabara mentioned that I should try to get a little jack plate so then I would only have to drill one set and I could play with engine height all I wanted.
Question.. Should I have a jackplate with the short shaft? The transom is cut for a 15" shaft.
It sounds like a good idea to me but im not really sure. What do you guys think. The bobs mini jack is rated for up to a 40 so it should work, right???

Yeah it should woork fine,i ran the mini bobs jack plate when i had my 25 on the back, but its made for 3 bolts on each side witch is to much for the little motors,so i only ran 2 on each side.

why are you not running one now? so you think that would be a good idea to solve my transom holes drilling woes?? even with my short shaft and transom height??? whats the vertical travel of it. Is it well built?? let me know. you wouldnt happen to have it still would you?? how much did it come out to american?

Im not running one know for a number of reasons.1 being i have double the recomended HP ,2 i dont need set back or lift,i acutully am having to cut 4" off my transom.Your boat will probably need the set back, the vertical lift i think is 4" maybe a 4" setback.I still have mine, never use it,i think i paid $80 american,id sell it fo $50 if someone was interested in it since its just sitten on my parts shelf. Its build OK,nothing fancy.
