That was shot on my cell phone yesterday. Sorry my buddy held it vertically. What you are seeing is only half the video as well. Since the boat sat for a few+ years, I am on and off the gas a lot more (too much) in the beginning of this video. I know it is hard on lowers. I will also wear at least a right shoe today, it is pretty hard on the foot and be less abrupt on and off the throttle. I was testing a weird issue but I figured it out last night in my sleep woke up and was like BAM figured it out!! Gotta give JamesGang a call to verify my thoughts.
The second part of the video is higher RPM and steady just hauling ass down the roughest part of the lake going into the wind and airing out the boat. I am going back today for more. I still have been advised to vary RPM for another tank of gas or two until all the old oil and whatever else might be in the fuel system and injectors is cleared out but I will be a lot less abrupt on the pedal.
I do love the boat though for sure. There is absolutely NOTHING like this boat on our lake. I am sure the first time the TWRA see me out there, I will be getting pulled. :)

Problem is I need to drive the boat more and run a bunch of gas through it. I can handle that. :) And I will be on and off the throttle less so I don't blow a lower. Still getting used to this boat. On my Cougar if you over work the throttles you blow an upper. Everything takes learning but this thing is a rocket for sure and an absolute blast to drive. Love it!!

Ask the two high dollar bass boaters I SMOKED today what they think of it. Fast way to go through 60 gallons of gas but sure was fun. I got my GoPro memory cards today. I WILL be shooting soem video after we get snow Friday and Saturday night.... COme on home spring. It was 70 on teh lake today. The fastest bass boat was shooting a HUGE roost, and it was a Bullet. I came up from behind and overtook him properly, then I went to idle and stopped waited for him and from a dead stop smoked his ass very quickly. Love the Shadow. Need to get about 120 more gallons run through it and it will be spot on. The R&D of ChrisM and JamesGang I got in this boat.... priceless. WAY easier to drive fast than my Cougar.
You know the Cougar is loud and looks SMOKING fast and no bass boats have ever even tried to race me. Today two bass boats tried and got SMOKED. Pretty wild day. The Cougar is just as fast as the Shadow,, it just takes a little time to get the air packed under it. The Shadow is a rocket ship but it has 100 hour between rebuilds especially how I drive it 260's on it. What is a man to do???? Damn.

I am getting into it and out of it varying the RPM because it sat for 3+ years and we drained the 62 gallon and the surge tank and I have only run 60 gallons through it since.

I have never had two trim switches on the dash. I was trying to match RPM but now I know it was the props. The 30P matched set I was running today took very very little trim difference to sync. I am still learning how to drive this boat. Like every new boat, it takes some time. I have about 5 hours in the seat so far. I may get some kind of trim syng device and put the control for it on the floor and control it with my left foot is there is such a thing. If not I have a buddy who is an electrical engineer and I am sure he can figure something out. I hate reaching up to the dash and fighting the G force to trim this boat. If you know of a solution to use one synced trim device please tell me what it is and it will be installed yesterday.
No trim leaks, the boat is in phenomenal condition for it's age and it has been at the guys house who drove it many times 20 years ago for 4 days and thoroughly checked over. Two new Holley surge tank pumps installed as well as a lot of new hoses, filters etc. High pressure EFI pumps are working to spec and there are two new 20 micron Bosch filters on the high pressure side. The Holley red's pull gas out of the main 62 gallon tank, through water/fuel separators and into a surge tank with two hoses running back to the main tank. The high pressure EFI pumps feed off the bottom of the surge tank and then go through 20 micron filters before going to the fuel rails. The boat is setup right. Thank you ChrisM and JamesGang.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I may put trim indicators and the Livorsi Diodes. I would also like a left foot operated switch and I know they make one because Greg runs a left foot trim switch in his Progression. Who has the best prices on Livorsi? I would like to replace the gauges as they are 25+ years old as well but I need something black on black to look period correct as I can. I also need to figure out what size they all are.
Thanks for the tips!! I need help finding the sizes and gauges for this boat. I don't want to spoil the look but I want accurate new gauges and a GPS speedo in this thing. Anybody know from the pic what I need to buy? I have a dealer who can order me and sell me for a good deal what I want but I don't know anything about hole sizes or anything about updating them. Please PM me if you can help.

I would try to be smooth with the sticks :) just because the racers kill there machines does mean you should. Yes the lower unit is strong but why push it . Parts break its not cheap to repair go and have some fun keep the video coming. I read that will was told to run the boat up and down on the throttle for the first two tanks .

It is just so hard to drive half throttle and vary the speed especially yesterday when there were so many bass boats on the lake. That thing wants to be run. It is so stable. All that bottom work really paid off and I got lucky to even buy this boat with all the setup R&D time in it. Very fun boat.
It is funny, when I drive the Cat, they all just keep fishing. When I drive the beast (Shadow) they all look at it. There is nothing like it on the lake and that makes it that much more fun. Need a trim setup like Greg on his progression with the Livorsi doides. I will call him today and see what to order.
One tank down, one or two more to go now. People who can afford to race competitively can afford to fix their boats if they even own them which a lot drive for the owner and the owner is who pays to fix them. I don't drive my boats like somebody else bought them. I don't have that luxury.

Cooter is Duane Cousons (pronounced Cuson)who is from Long Lake where JamesGang and a few of his buddies have camps there. He raced snow machine up there and loves to go fast and race anything he can. Great guy. He is the one who got them into snow machines and he now lives about 1.75 hours from me. He moved down to race country in NC to race competitively in stock cars starting out on dirt track. I think he got 7th place points his rookie year here but again, he was running engines he built and could not compete with 100K engines his high roller competitors were running. He has the skills but never could get the high dollar backing to compete with the big dogs down here. He is a great guy and his nick name is Cooter and is friends down in NC call him Coot for short. Very skilled mechanic and never thought he would see that boat again. Anything goes wrong with it or I break anything, it is going back to his shop. He is a great guy who I met through JamesGang and I can tell you, those Long Lake guys like Chris and a few Jimmy's have had a great life up there. Wish I had friends like that here while I was growing up. When I first made contact with Coot, I was like hey man Jimmy had friends not named Jimmy or Tony????
The Shadow is fast and so refined from all teh time they put in it drives like a dream. Chine walk is easy, the pad or what little there was of it is filled and the bottom of this boat has been sanded down and straightened up. You know Chris and Jimmy with his Velocity were always racing and trying to one up each other. I got lucky and got the boat due to Chris having health issues. I love the boat and will be keeping it forever. Unfortunately my driving habits and the need for speed disease is going to cost me a lot of money but WTF, I am not going to live forever, I have wanted screaming 2.5 OS engines for years and FINALLY after many years of working 7 days a week, I can afford to play as long as I can. I would not be selling the Cougar if I did not know that between all the boats I have, I will need the money set aside in my boat fund to keep all this stuff running.
The Shadow is something very special to me and knowing the guys who got it to the point it is and becoming friends with them is priceless. The boat is amazing, very stable and controllable even when trimmed excessively. Ask the guy in the Bullet with 300XS on it I SMOKED twice yesterday. Man this thing is so much fun, maybe better than sex and I have my neighbor and a lot of friends at the lake in TN who love to go fast and can drink a ton. Hair of the dog is needed some mornings after hanging with them. I love this Shadow. Thank you George Linder for the design, this boat is nothing like anything on this lake. I wonder how much a brand sparkling new bullet bass boat with a 300XS costs these days?

Is this something like what you're looking for to control your trim? This is my 22 Progression and the loud pedal is on the right, but the trim is the left pedal. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/tfwarda/Progression%2022%20Pictures/ProgressionInterior_zpscf7950fd.jpg (http://s37.photobucket.com/user/tfwarda/media/Progression%2022%20Pictures/ProgressionInterior_zpscf7950fd.jpg.html)

My friend had the same problem with the trim buttons. He made a set that mounts on the wheel. If you got a hold of him. I'm sure he would help you out. http://compositecraftracing.com/ I had a pic of the wheel. I just can't find it. It's a pair of paddles that goes on the back of the wheel.

Well I was thinking about it but JamesGang said use one finger between the two switches and it will become second nature. Jimmy has a bunch of bad ass boats and his Velocity is the one in the feature in hot boat or whatever magazine the Shadow is in. I am going to try what he says first. If I can't figure it out, I will be doing something else, but he knows the boat and he has NEVER been wrong in any advice he has given me over a lot of months. TIme will tell if I am a good wheel man or not.

Nice setup, great looking boat!! Thanks for the pic. Hopefully I can get used to one finger on the switches in the center of them. Jimmy has 5 of them and he said is is like second nature once I get to it and easy. I will try it his way before I change anything in the boat. I love how 1985 looking it is. Need to find some gauges that will not look out of place it in and I have an arrangement I think I will like better. I also want a nice GPS speedo in it the speedometer does not work now and I have not even bothered putting the car GPS in there or my phone GPS apps either. Just having fun driving it.

I have a Trim Switch on the dash in addition to the foot pedal. (You can sort of see it just to the left of the Kill Switch on the right side of the dash.) I have to tell you though, I almost never use it. The In Control foot pedal is just so much easier to use.

Thank you for the info. So that is an In Control brand foot switch. Cool. Thank you. I have to admit, even though this thing has nice hydraulic steering I would still like to keep both hands on the wheel although ChrisM's driving style was one wrist laying on top of the wheel, he can drive the hell out of this boat. I absolutely LOVE the thing. Hope I can afford the care and feeding of it. Need to start doing regular Compression and Leak Down checks on it, I have the tools. I also might want a couple fuel pressure gauges on the dash I could probably T into the line right before it attaches to injector fuel rail for the sending unit. How do you guys with 260's set yours up to make sure you don't run low on fuel pressure for instance if you have a blockage or a high pressure pump failure. I know I have smooth fuel flow to the high pressure pumps because Chris had a custom surge tank made that is fed with redundant Holley reds with overflows going back to the main tank and fuel/water separators inline before the reds. High pressure side goes through two Bosh pumps and then Bosh 20 micron filters then to fuel rail on each engine.
I would take a photo but since we are supposed to get snow tonight and tomorrow night we did not go to the lake. It was 76 there yesterday and I took a few friends side by side riding instead of the boat out to test a prototype STM billet secondary I just got. Verdict, makes the machine way more fun to drive even with 4 pretty good size fellas in it + beer but that is beside the point.

I kind of like having both hands on the wheel at all times too. Most of my boating is done on Lake Ontario and it can get pretty snotty. Being able to steer with both hands and control the throttle with one foot and trim with the other just works so much better for me than having to fumble around looking for a trim switch that's bouncing around with the rest of the boat. Now if I had a traditional shifter / throttle beside me with the trim switch right on the handle, that's another story. Toss in a whole second motor and I'm thinking you need a different setup.
Remember, many high performance boats with I/O's have a "both" trim switch that activates both trim motors and even both trim tabs in addition to separate switches that operate one side at a time. In boats so equipped, the only time I use the individual control switches is if one side gets out of whack with the other.

Top end maybe not compared to Keith's Intimidator, but how fast you get there is pretty impressive with two props in the water and that much HP. It will throw you back in the seat like a mag lev roller coaster. Only time I have experienced acceleration like this is in my buddys Lotus twin turbo V8 Esprit with race prepared engine. My Cougar goes about a s fast but takes WAY longer to get there. It will smoke a Bullitt bass boat with a 300XS running 70+ from a dead stop in about 4 or 5 seconds with 5 people in it. Ask the guys who run Jimmy's twin velocity for more accurate info. J Geico owns it now.

Me personally can care less and built mine to have something unique......
If I personally wanted a real fast boat to run mid, high 90's or even 100 a 21 V bottom would certainly not be my first choice for more reasons then one..... But I'm a wimp/chicken anyway...:smiletest:
I personally did not want a me too boat and wanted something different or cool even when sitting on the trailer......:p;)
Could they be safer if you break a skeg or steering... I think with counter LU's you have a better shot with steering failure.
Would twin PM's or 2.5 200's burn the same amount of fuel or close?....
Hope my answer helped your concerns......:reddevil::p:smiletest:

I guess you never looked at my personal setup properly on the RS.
GPS not needed just left in place because it was there and already wired. Not many gauges many have more with a single...:D
As for fuel system on RS with PM's it is very simple;
From main tank piece of fuel line to primer bulb to pulse pump on motor done, just like any 300X should be setup....;)
Even had the extra trim pump in place from when I removed the jack plate so no work or additional equipment needed there!
Even for back rigging and bulk head fittings all I added was 2- #6 for steering lines.
As for my Howard not many gauges and fuel system was quickly swapped when I removed the hand grenades.....

OK, I get it.....:D Maybe a bit much depending on situation...;):D
Let me add a bit of maybe useless info..
Only needed gauges on any setup are:
1-Water temp.
2-Water pressure.
3-Tach
The rest are for fun and totally not necessary in my personal opinion!
I use a volt meter just to keep an eye on electric since I had a cut out.
You do not even need a gas gauge on some boats, just stick the tank.........most race boats do to get very accurate readings for weight etc.....;)
BTW, would you please, stop picking on my overly equipped little toy.....:D

It is pretty fast, I will know for sure with a GPS in it but Keith's boat is not much faster let's put it like that. If I was on a river or had tides, this boat could post a number like the Intimidator. Is that fast? Not really in comparison to a lot of Cats. It is already within a few MPH of that number on a lake with no tides and no moving water. There are guys running 300X motors with a surge tank setup as well.
I really don't mind the fuel system on the boat. It is not that complicated and if you took a ride in this boat, you would probably be surprised how strong it pulls and it is faster than you think. I believe Chris listed a number in his for sale post, I just don't really talk numbers in person or in threads unless they are for sale threads. When I see people at the ramp I just say it is fast and offer them a ride. The fule system is all right under the back seat as well and very easy to get to. Chris had the tank modified to hold 62 gallons and moved forward for CG purposes among years of other work. The thing is awesome.
It sure turns heads at the lake more so than any other boat I have ever seen there. The main reason I have it though is because I love the vintage look and how the thing handles and runs and sounds. It is my personal toy just to have fun with and I never have a problem finding friends and neighbors who want to ride in it and go have fun and I have the right kind of friends and neighbors, they LOVE to have fun and get wild. Perfect boat for that kind of fun.

That's my velocity. They are faster with the twins. But the amazing part is the torque. When you hit it at 80 it still wants to rip the seats out of the floor. You will never get board of that boat. Glad to see the boat on the water again. Please be careful, and make a smart investment in good life jackets please.

Hi JG. Yes these two boats Jimmy and Chris built are pretty special boats. I guess it is hard to understand for people who have never had a ride on one of them. As you know Jimmy and Chris spent years perfecting the setup and you are right, the kick in the butt is very impressive and they are a lot faster than people think. The OS mids scream and have that distinctive sound as well. Love the Shadow. I do have a couple lifeline jackets but I also boat on a lake where 1 or two footers close together are about as much as you see. We don't have the far apart spaced rollers like you guys do on the Hudson and other places you run up there. On our lake even with 5 people in the boat, it just flys over everything and is smooth as can be. But you still get the kick when you put the pedal to wood at pretty much any speed.
You still running old school cleavers on yours like I am mine? Have you tried any more modern props?

A few VERY important things to keep in mind at all times!
1- You should NEVER run a boat hard or try to show what a boat can do with passengers in the boat!
If you like or have the desire to show them, its OK but....put them in another boat or at the dock and say watch this!
2- When you put the keys in the ignition of any high strung boat....top quality life saving equipment goes on, no matter what the plan or place of running is!!!!
NOTE; Even more important in your present case while learning a new to you HPerf boat, things can or will get out of hand very quickly, be smart!
When an accident or incident happens WE ALL in our sport suffer!
Please, be smart and use common sense at all times!!
PS; This is just my 2cents, Lifeline probably saved my life!

You saw in the video we all had life jackets on. I also had the 28P props on not the 30's. I was just burning gas not pushing it hard.
I don't push it with people in the boat without lifelines on and even then it is only one other person just to balance out the boat but the majority of the time I am by myself in the boat and in my Cougar as well because one of the main reasons I bought them was just to get away on the lake by myself with no cell service and nobody to bug me. (I have a hand held VHF radio and all the marinas monitor the marine VHF channels actually I have 4. We use them we we go riding in the woods on our side by sides as well.)
We have a nice and very comfortable pontoon for taking a lot of people around.
For some reason though, when my neighbors see me putting the Shadow in the water they all come running. I have 8 lifejackets (16 in Pontoon) not including the lifelines in all 3 of my boats, two throwables, a air horn ropes bumpers the full 9 yards in every boat. I am a firm believer in safety. Also in the video I made sure my rear passenger with the life jacket on had her hands on two stainless handles the whole ride. She never let go just like I asked her to do. I have only really aired out that boat time one out on a big cruisers wakes and I was by myself, if flys true and great and the CG is perfect with fuel in it. Almost empty tank, not sure yet.
I am really impressed with how it drives and I am lucky to get the boat with all that R&D in it setup like it is. Father B was also lucky as well because Chris and Jimmy put years of time into getting this pair of special boats setup VERY well.

Mine will be going back in the water this summer after 3 yrs. of being in storage! I sold my current regular ride so I'd have put it back together! I just coudn't find the get-it-done attitude like tux, while I had another fast ride ready and waiting!

Hey Don, nice to read about your plan on getting it back together this year.
Both you and Chris were instrumental and extremely helpful with valuable information to my build/project.
I think once you get started the motivation will follow and keep you focused.

Tony you are never satisfied but you sure do a nice rigging job. Can't wait to see what your next project is and who gets your twin RS.
I am good on boats now. Or I will go broke and even more likely the wife will KILL me before I go broke. Conveniently we are also out of garage space thank goodness. Honestly, I think I am sitting in what I have for pretty good prices especially considering how much time has been put into both of them in R&D and testing. There are a lot of boats for sale right now for great deals.

I will be Tony. GLWTS of your RS. Somebody is going to get a super clean and well rigged boat you could eat out of the bilge it is so clean.
I am trying to order those anodes and thermostat for the wife's pontoon. Most confusing parts to find anywhere even on Ebay. I will be at the lake all next week and I am going to call a local Merc dealer and see if he by chance has some, there are a lot of pontoons with 115's on them before I order and wait. Need to get that done, don't want water in the oil from a failed thermostat. Thank you for the heads-up about that issue on the Yamaha powerheads in the Merc 115's.

My suggestion is to call Fuller, Diamond or Sanderson Marine with your serial # you will get good prices and service to your front door within days without any guess work!
BTW, not sure what you mean about water in oil?
What I mentioned since I have a similar motor is, to put oil in the gas on that Mercury/Yamaha 4 stroke power head! PM or text so we do not take this thread totally of track.

I will do that if I can't walk in locally today and get them. I am pretty sure I am going down to get the Cougar today and bring it back here for when Frank delivers Keith's boat so I have to go right by the place anyway and with the warm weather we have had lately 73 today I am sure they are open and busy. If they want 300 for 100 worth of parts I'll try to squeeze off a good fart in the place before I walk out and call the guys you mentioned. Probably easier just to call Fullers when they open and just order them with fast shipping so I have them by Friday for sure and can pop the boat out and change them in less than an hour, pressure spray off the pontoons and have it ready for next week while we are there all week. Hope to have Keith's boat to play with by then as well. Man I am so lucky to have the boats I do and I still have less in all of them than the Skater I almost bought before I ran into problems insuring it. 3 for the price of one and I have some cool boats. I am truly a lucky man, all those years of slaving my life away 7 days a week and hundreds of email and PM's to deal with every day, I finally get to enjoy myself more and fly and be free in unique and fun boats.

Sanderson turned me on to a Yamaha dealer who had the Thermostat for like 50 bucks shipped fast to get here by Friday it was South Eastern Marine in VA. Butch is a nice guy. He will have my anodes next week. Thank you Tony. Don, can't wait to see your setup.

I picked up these two hydrostream hulls a few yrs. ago and spent the last couple seasons rigging and dialing them in! picked up the voodoo first and got bored with it, moved on to the viking, not bored with it but it's taking away my time for the challenger. now time to take a step back and fix up my first love!
toni, I have a couple 115/4s.mercs here, something I should know? pm me please.
David , no problem with a lake tour, when it's together. right now I'm body/paint the dually and hoping the weather warms a bit[holding me up] paint booth no heat! will be starting challenger as soon as I get truck back together!

NICE looking Challenger. Bad ass man. Wish I had your skills. I picked up the Cougar today and moved the Shadow to my heated basement garage. Having a mule with a hitch on the front saves
a lot of work, you guys would flip if you saw my driveway. Maybe I can put the gopro on the mule next time I move boats around. There is something to be said for living in the semi flat lands. I live in the steep mountains and my driveway at our lake place is pretty crazy to say the least.
\But all in all, ready for Frank on Sunday to get the Intimidator and unfortunately kiss my Cougar goodbye. It is going to a great home, climate controlled WAY NICE garage and to people I know so it takes the sting out of selling it a good bit. The boat has not been wet a single day since I have owned it I am proud to say. Keeping your boats dry is priceless for longevity and lets you spend money on the stuff you break instead of derigging the boat and wasting time and money on the hull, unless you have the skills to buy a wet hull and make it whole again then keep it dry. Bitter sweet selling a boat you love. I with I was independently wealthy I would just build a new garage for it and keep the thing.
