My friend just bought a 1989 glastron carlson CSS andit has a 350 w/270 hp engine that should run between 4200-4800 rpm. It came with a wierd looking stainless 21 pitch ?? This seems to low for that rig ??

What would a 5.7 magnum mercrusier outdrive have for a gear case ratio ??

@ 1.87 to 1 ration @ 4800rmp that is 51 mph with no slippage???

less 10 % slipp = 45.8 mph ??? way too slow a good 4 banger would do that in a small 17ft IO !!!

does anyone run a similar rig and if so what prop do you run and what speed do you turn ??

haven't had a chnce to run it yet ?

I don't have it in front of me, but at least this moves it back to the top of the page. I was thinking they were in the low 1.6's, but might even be 1.5 and a fraction. Unless it's different from the BB Alpha drives of the late 80's it's definately not 1.87's.

I always loved that look!! Styling cues that were WAY ahead of the times back in 88' when they rolled out! I called on one last year in Mich. that had the same power, (I think thay all came with that either a 305 or 350 SBC/bravo combo...?) and the guy told me he could just touch 60 with a stainless 23 OMC (Raker?) Couldnt' say about ratios... Hope your friend gets' it sorted & enjoys that cool lookin' "tennis shoe" boat! :D Jason
